Dog Run/Dog Trolley

Plan B for the fence climbing beagle is a dog run/ dog trolley. Has anybody installed them? Any suggestions? Are there better brands or parts- I saw the Petco one has a plastic pulley and the TSC has a metal pulley- I would think metal would last longer, but I don’t know if it has a tendency to rust so that is why the petco one is plastic.

Here is a link to the TSC one- http://www.tractorsupply.com/dog-tie-outs/titan-reg-cable-tie-out-50-ft-dog-run-2436257

I’m trying to decide the best area. I know to put the stops so he can’t get tangled on anything. I also am thinking of making it so it attaches onto a snap (I have a bunch of double end snaps), so that I can take down the line and move it if necessary.

Usually they are overhead, but I have two existing screw eyes that would work but they are probably about 4 feet tall… high enough that he won’t be able to jump it and easy enough to duck over. Do you think that would work okay? The overhead reason is really just to make it easier for us humans to get around it, right?

I have used a homemade dog trolley in the ground. Use two pipes, drill hole in the top, attach line (plastic covered cable line worked best for me), tap the pipe into the ground with line attached (insert ring for attachment to line from dog to cable so that cable just runs along the top of the ground). I would make the line from dog to cable about 5 - 6 feet to allow easy access to their house, ground cable whatever length you like. It did not tangle and dog was able to run up and down without the worry of the overhead where they can get around whatever is used to attach the overhead line. I have used those also but unless you have a building that you can attach either ends to, it is always a worry that they will go around either of the end supports.

Hope the directions are understandable. I did use mine for an old man beagle and for a old coonhound I rescued. The only problem I ever had was the old man beagle (who was a housedog), we were away and left a dog sitter at home who did not notice? that he had barked until he became hoarse. It did not work for him because he was a house dog and I should have never allowed him to be tethered out like that for so long, or I should have had someone who was not silly enough to let him bark himself hoarse. Poor little dude.

Thank you for caring so much about an old discarded beagle. I have a special love for them but they can be seriously athletic escape artists. I have seen them climb trees while hunting so I understand!
