That was my thought at first, but surely it would have been diagnosed by now. Plus you can smell parvo - it’s unmistakeable.
Also PRS is not the sort of dog owner who would let her dog go unvaccinated, as evidenced by the “hitchhiker” thread.
Any chance the dog got into some rat poison? That would be consistent with bleeding, at least. Just tossing it out as an idea.
I thought of parvo too. that’s the way my dog presented (that was in 91!!), but when I realized he was 6, I figured he had been vaccinated.
Hope he is feeling better and almost ready to come home.
Buster gets all his shots and is on HW preventative. Horses haven’t been wormed in the last several weeks so that’s not it. No rat poison where he can get into it…he is a mostly inside dog, he stays outside between lunch and around 5:00 pm but he is in an outside run at that time. He is only allowed in the yard while we are home. He is never allowed to run in the pasture or barn unsupervised since he loves to eat and roll in horse poop…the fresher the better :dead:.There are bones in the yard that all three of the larger dogs can chew on. I get them those large beef femurs that have been prepared for dogs. I do keep a close eye on them and if one looks like it is a little too brittle I remove it immediately. He does get the occasional rawhide but he didn’t get one last week. He does, however like to behead and unstuff stuffed dog toys but he is usually supervised when he has a toy and it is removed as soon as destruction looks eminent. I don’t know if this could have anything to do with his condition but I did give him his Comfortis pill on the Sunday before he got sick…so that would be 6 days before he started vomiting…although he was obviously not feeling quite himself for a day or two before that.
I’m hopeful that he will come home today. I’m stuck at work but my daughter will be going to the vet’s office to check on him and see about his progress.
worms was my first thought but I imagine if it was the vet would have said…best of luck.

Shoot, Virginia creeper berries? My dog has had chronic problems with HGE, and we have Virginia creeper all around our yard… I never thought about that; I’ve been ripping out nightshade anytime I find it…
Buster has been released from the hospital! He is currently residing under my desk since I have to work OT today. He made a “normal” BM as soon as I could get him to a patch of grass to his liking. ;). He seems to be very happy to back with family.

Nope. They can “guess” just as we have done here but there was nothing that jumped out as a single cause. He came home with a couple of medicines…Sulfasalazine and a package of Proviable…with paste to firm up stools and capsules to help reestablish intestinal balance. The next few days will see if he is feeling better. He isn’t a dog that gets into things that don’t belong to him so I don’t think he ate something he shouldn’t (but he is just a dog)
Yay! Glad the pooch is doing better! Prob just a case of the HGE/tummy gremlins. Glad he bounced back quickly and hope he continues to do well!
Good news! I’m sure he’s happy to be home with Mom. :yes:
