Dog training question: finishing a recall

If she sits facing away from you, immediately run backwards a few steps. If the collar/leash “pops” her, that’s ok. She’ll learn quickly that Mom does unexpected things if she doesn’t keep an eye on you. As you run backwards, she will have to turn to face you. The instant she does, high praise. “Yay Puppy!!!” Give a treat, squeaky toy, whatever keeps her interest. It she starts to turn away, repeat. Do this with a short recall, 6 feet on so, on leash. She shouldn’t be off leash at this point. Huge rewards for facing you, unexpected actions when she doesn’t watch you.

Timing is critical. This should happen the instant she starts to turn, before she sits.

Make sure you don’t feed her prior to practice; it may make the treats more interesting.
