Dog transport?

I’m trying to get a dog from California to Texas. I’ve set up transport for horses before, but I have never set up transport for a dog. I don’t imagine it can be very much, right?

Anyone ever shipped dogs? The dog is a ranch dog reject that is coming to live on my couch from a friend.

The only way I know to do it is Delta Dash – works best if both ends are near major airports. And it was ages ago, I’m not sure if they still do live animals.

Contact some local rescue groups, some do transport runs and will have an open spot.

However I believe I’m breaking the rules by offering advice without pictures…

There are lots of options. We’ve done “rescue trains” with drivers who drive a leg and hand off. Professionally, some horse haulers will let one tag along if they’re going in your general direction. And then you can always go air cargo but there are temp regulations and other regs that can make it harder and definitely more expensive.

If you have good connections with horse haulers, I’d try that route first.

Pictures of the dog? Hahaha. I only have a couple!

When Hope was a puppy and supposed to grow up to be a big, bad, cattle dog machine…
Hope in her natural habitat, now grown and totally not a cattle dog machine!
Hope being tortured by a two year old

 She will make the perfect addition to my house. We don’t herd cattle, and we love snuggling on the couch.

GOOGLE “Dog Transportation” and you will be surprised at how many pet movers will pop up.
She looks like a cute girl; what is she?

Oh my gosh she’s super cute!! Not exactly what I was expecting though from your “cattle dog washout” comment haha. I was totally prepared to see blue/red heeler face!

Ok. We have pictures. You may carry on. Also I’ll try to come up with something more useful to you than drooling over her after I sleep.

Hahah! She is a Black Mouth Cur. When I say “cattle dog” I actually mean working some of the top PRCA/PBR bucking bulls. Most of their dogs are cur’s or some sort of cross between a usual cattle dog and dogs of more “size”. Of course, Hope never grew up to be THAT big either which was another strike against her. She is perfect size for couch cuddling though!

I have been looking that route. Most of them seem to be weeks before she would get here, traveling with a random person I don’t know. I’m still open to those types of suggestions if anyone has experience with them! I just would prefer to send her with someone not so much of a stranger.

OP - I have another thought - though not much better in the “random stranger” situation.
Go online to Pleasure Horse Forum; they have a category on hauling. You may be able to find someone who is doing horses from Cal to Tex that could bring the little girl…
But if you want her quick, its the airline thing. I believe the dog transport services are like horse haulers. (Who are mostly random people you don’t know…) They should have a good reputation, some references that you can actually verify, insurance.
Otherwise, you fly to Cal, rent a car and do a road trip back. Could be worse… I paid $350 for a rescue dog from a foster group. They showed me vet bills totaling over $300, so I figured it was a fair deal. Since the dog is free (and darn cute which has a huge value, lol) just figure out what you can spend.

Good luck

p.s. DO NOT use U-Ship, that would scare the B-G’s out of me.

Delta…but book son before it gets too hot.

Or ask some rescues.

Google O.T.R.A (On The Road Again) forum. They set up pet transport relay style.
