Dog vacuuming...is it a thing?

I know that some of us vacuum horses, but do people vacuum dogs?

This is mostly inspired by my breed of choice being a tornado of fur aka Labrador. I imagine if your dog is ok with it after some proper introduction, reward, and training it’d be a decent part of the grooming routine. I have a spare vacuum (canister style) that I use in the basement that has a broad range of suction, so it can really be turned down low. I imagine they might even sell specific dog vacuum attachments, but I have two for upholstery that may be dog friendly and gentle.

I regularly brush/shed/groom and don’t mind it, but it just got me thinking because I have a horse that loves the vacuum…and body clippers strangely enough.

I used to vacuum both of my corgis and they seemed to at least tolerate it. I used the upholstery attachment.

However, neither of them were frightened by the vacuum. The dog I have now would probably have a heart attack if I tried it on him.

Despite my attempts, the vacuum is a scary monster so I can’t vacuum my dog. I clearly followed the same thought process! :lol:

I used to vacuum my cattle dog. I used a curry comb vacuum attachment made for horses and a canister vacuum.

That’s what I have on my horse vac, which is a small Shop Vac; used it on my previous dog. My current dog is deaf and isn’t fazed by scary noisy things.

My previous lab LOVED to be vacuumed. Current one wants nothing to do with being vacuumed.

My Welsh terrier loves to be vacuumed. Give her a trim and she moves to the vacuum canister. Every time my DH dusted (which he did with a vacuum) he would routinely vacuum her. He made it a game with a treat after.

My parents used to vacuum one of their cats. He LOVED the sweeper. It was a canister and he would actually sleep on top of it when it wasn’t on.
He would come and throw himself down in the way when you tried to sweep and wouldn’t move until he got swept. But you had to be careful not to suck up his tail, that was not appreciated!

You see it lots in the benching area at dog shows too
