Dog vomiting blood

My miniature poodle did this on occasion, otherwise bright and happy but occasional belly ache and blood flecks in vomit. She got better with only one round of omeprazole. Best thing is to feed smaller amounts and more frequent meals.

If your dog is otherwise totally normal, and bloodwork is fine, its likely what you are dealng with. However if there is any change like further anorexia, lethargy, panting, diarrhea etc. then a more intense work up is probably warranted.

She’s carrying on like her normal self, we just have to wait and see if the meds helped. So far no more vomiting or blood. Right now she’s playing tug o war with the puppy.

My dog vomitted bile and blood when she had an episode of pancreatitis. She had diarrhea as well, but the vomitting came first. The ulcers were caused by the pancreatitis. Any sudden change in diet can cause this kind of an attack, especially fatty foods.

We pulled blood to be sure, and she was treated with sulcrate, pepcid ac and metronidazole and bounced back within a day or two.

I keep her on a very strict diet. No human food except veggies and minimal treats that are bland and not fatty. Since then, she has been doing very well.

My vet also suggested nothing but chicken broth for 48 hours to rest the stomach.

I don’t know if that is the reason behind my dog’s problem. She only goes off her feed once every couple of weeks and not always did she vomit. She remains normal all day, except not eating/vomiting. That night was the first time she vomited blood.

Glad to hear its something hopefully controllable. Hope the meds take care of it!

Hopefully! One of the meds she was on I had to mix with her food, she finished that last night. This morning I fed her, she sniffed her food, looked at me, sniffed her food again, laid down and kept looking at her food and me as if she was saying, Hey where’s the added stuff you put in here! Spoiled rotten dog! lol

Update please ~ Jingles & AO continue ~

well it’s been a few days ~ how is your dear, dog doing on the meds ?

Jingles & AO continue !

She’s doing fine. Still a little upset that she’s back to eating plain food, but is eating. Still no vomiting. She loves taking her meds, actually she loves it so much, when I get my kid’s meds, she comes running! I wish my kids were that enthusiastic about taking their meds. She will be finished with all her meds tomorrow, and then we wait to see if they truly did help or if we have to go back to the vet for more tests.

GOOD ! Thanks for the update !

Good ! Good ! Good !

I’m happy to report still no vomiting! She’s been eating all of her food, no more sneaking to graze on grass and is feeling great. Let’s just hope the tiny ulcers don not return.

That’s wonderful news!
