Dog waste disposal

Has anyone tried this?

One of the issues I’m having in life right now is that I have large dogs, and our city limits our trash bags. A huge component of my trash is dog waste in biodegradable bags, but it is heavy, smelly, and generally awful to deal with. A way to flush it without taking it in the house would really be revolutionary! I’m not going to say that I’ve never fantasized about an outdoor toilet for this reason alone.

I suppose it will work wonderfully if you have a system for picking it up that does not involve the bags, because you can’t be tossing the bags down the drain.

The water is a pretty important step too. Low flow fixtures are causing all kinds of clogging issues in a system not designed to work with out water pushing solids along.

I wonder if towns & cities would support this - introducing animal waste into a waste management system might not be allowed everywhere.

We used one of the composting systems years ago - it was really easy but you did have to stay on top of it, just like any kind of composting system. I don’t understand this statement:

“Some dog owners have attempted to compost the waste, but the parasites and bacteria found in dog waste have been found to be harmful to others.”

“Harmful to others” - what does that mean? I mean - I wouldn’t use composted dog poop in my garden. But not sure that it’s harmful to compost it just to break it down. Obviously like all compost systems - placement is important; I wouldn’t want this on the side of a stream or above my well either.

Do you have a yard? Would one of those Doggie Dooley waste disposal systems work? The work sort of like a septic tank.

That’s what we used (my post above). Really very easy, but obviously there could be contamination depending on where you put it.

I use this, and have done for several years. The only problem I had was that the two pieces (the threaded piece and the bowl) came apart because it wasn’t glued too well. Re-glued it and it’s now solid. It screws into the inspection pipe for my septic tank. It’s handy to have a water source close by, so you can “flush” it. Walmart usually have good poop scoopers.
