Doing a short court test in a long court

I’m going to a schooling show to do USEA Modified B and that’s a short court test. But I’ll be riding in a long court.

For a leg yield from the quarter line between B and X to the rail at M, do you go to M (24m in the long court, but only 14m in the short court) or or go B to R (12m)?

I’m guessing stick to the letters and do the longer, shallower leg yield?

Yes you stick to the letters!

You always do what the letters say to do.

Letters are your friend. The pattern is the same so just try to remember where you are!

I persuaded my local dressage show to shorten the ring for the dressage test. They really can change the dressage arena to a small arena. I know that the dressage shows don’t really like to, but according to one of the organizers, the show needs to be able to accommodate a para rider that rides in the small court, so it isn’t out of the world to move the arena for the eventers that need to practice their dressage test in the small ring. There really isn’t any point to practicing the eventing tests in the large ring, because everything is nice and slow and you have plenty of time to get ready for the movement. In the small ring everything comes up very quick, especially in modified and Prelim. I have discovered that not all organizers know that they can change the arenas!

Most of the schooling shows in our area change the arena to a small arena for the eventing tests and also use it for the intro tests (it saves time). Either all of the small arena tests first then change it to large or vice versa. Or sometimes set up a separate small arena and hire a second judge for a half day if entries warrant and there is a place to do this at the facility.

Our local shows group intro and small court tests at the end of the day, and shorten the ring once.

Stick to the letters!

I recently did a INTRO test in a long court. We were in the ring for like 30 minutes
