Domino, Pinto Horse Used on TV Show The Texan

I’ve started a new second job helping out a senior couple twice a week. The husband watches the Western channel, whatever it’s called. One Western that pops up is one I’d never heard of, The Texan, that immediately grabbed my attention because of the hero’s horse. He is an overo pinto, gorgeous horse and extremely distinctive. I’ve always had a soft spot for a good-looking pinto. Furthermore, in the several episodes I’ve seen so far at the client, they do not use multiple horses. I’ve been watching for that, because this one is unique in markings and would be very hard to double. Unless they are very good with dye, he’s the same horse throughout.

Just out of curiosity, anybody know anything more about this horse? Breed, other film credits, eventual fate, etc? Google tells me that his name was Domino but nothing more, other than the obvious fact that he was pinto.

I’m pretty sure that was Ralph McCutcheon’s horse Domino (not to be confused with his other star pinto, Dice). Domino is also in the movie The Big Country and was Chuck Connors’s horse on Branded. Little bit of info here: https://horsefame.tripod.com/text/UpFury.shtml

It’s hard to find into on any of the horses from old westerns…and there were so many westerns with so many horses. I assume Dice and Domino were related, based on their names and their looks. They are both gorgeous.

not positive, but I think Charlton Heston rode him in the Big Country. That movie is a favorite of mine. And it will be coming up soon, like next week or so on TCM.
