I received an email from Judy Yancey yesterday. She’s heard back from mare owner’s who have bred to DF and it is 100% on six mares checked. Sounds like his semen is working.[/QUOTE]
Thanks. Good to know.

I’m one of Judy’s clients who bought Don Frederic semen from her and yes, yesterday evening my vet was here to u/s my Jazz mare and found the magic black dot!! One try, one pregnancy! I’d say the semen works!

Siegi,
Is this your mare Sunrise? This should be a good cross.

Dune, are there any more details you can share? 1 try, 2? Maiden mare?
We are still thinking about using him with our mare Farina.
Thanks,

They tried 3 times, older maiden mare with good culture/biopsy. They are now trying fresh from a different stallion to see if it’s a frozen semen issue. I’ll have to check and see where they bought semen from…would be interesting to know.
I heard of one that didn’t work. Older mare that has been open a few years. (Not bought from JY)
I’m going to try maybe this year probably next year. Semen has been purchased so no going back now.
Hi Dan,
I don’t have a mare by that name… It’s my mare Showbiz that is in foal to Don Frederic.

I am very tempted.
Originally I was looking to use him on my older Hano mare. She is a sturdier, heavier type, and a bit old fashioned even though she is half TB. She scored straight 8s and is very correct but I’d like to shorten her back a little and round up the loin a bit. Also I’d like to see a bit more flashiness in the trot and canter. Although only 16.2 she has a history of producing huge foals with height and tons of bone. I am thinking she might produce a monster from this cross.
Then I thought he might suit my other Hano mare. A totally different type altogether. She is very fine - looks like a little TB (she is 1/4 TB), is only 15.3hh, and has a tiny pony head with short ears. She could do with more bone and substance, height, plus more loft and reach in the movements, and a better loin attachment. Perhaps this is the better choice.
What is Don Frederic’s temperament like?

Oops, I meant Showbiz. Should be a nice foal.

Yes Dan, I read those posts. It was this comment that puzzled me:
From the sounds of it he would suit mares of super rideability and easy temperament
I dropped in on Don Frederic while I was in Germany. I still like him. He is a solid, substantial looking horse so not right for all mares. Now I just need to wait and see how the cross turns out.
Dan
Glad to hear he did not dissapoint in the flesh. How would you discribe the length of his back and loins, and the outline of his croup?
He seems like a really nice and elastic looking boy. My biggest concern with him was his length of neck, at the beginning of this video clip it looks almost abnormally short: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBrYf4gTzB8 What are other peoples thoughts? Other than that I quite like everything else about him!
Hmmm Cindy. I hadn’t noticed a short neck but I’ll def go back and have another squizz!
My concern is that he looks a bit weak/long/narrow through the loins. I know work with strengthen this area but this isn’t great for the mare/s I have in mind.
I would say the length of loin is slightly long. The muscles going over that loin are not in any way weak however. The back is also made stronger structurally by the withers tying in deeper on the back. I wouldn’t want his back any stronger.
Regarding the neck, I don’t think it the length that is so much the issue as the thickness of the throat latch. This is not as apparent looking at him in the stall (where it looked normal) as on the video where it looked like it was bothering him.

A Don Frederic embryo was flushed early this morning.
Fingers crossed.
Dan
I just watched the latest video of Don Frederic that is posted on Schockmohle’s website and Facebook page. At the very end of the video is OUR FOAL! We are very proud.
