Do you know why Dan? Have you heard how good the frozen semen is?
I don’t know why.
It may just be that he was being used too much. There is only so much to go around.

can someone tell me a bit about his Neck set?
You can see on the video that he is heavy thru the throatlatch/neck. I can tell that it is making it more difficult for him to collect.
So far, this is the only real fault I can see.

I’ll show off the San Amour mare more after she finishes her mare performance test. I don’t want to jinx her.

We just got the word. Our San Amour mare got her St. Pr. scores and is invited to Rastede.

I know he is being used, at least in Europe. I was just saying that I didn’t think he had finished his 70-day test yet and wasn’t marketed on a grand scale.
For what it’s worth Alexandra - I have Paul Schockemohle’s frozen roster that he sent me and Don Frederic is NOT on it. Therefore, he was NOT being offered to Canadians as of January/February/March/April. Maybe this changed as of May/June and for the rest of this season, but he most definitely WAS NOT on earlier rosters and that is what I was going by. So, no need to be rude and ridicule me.
I was not intending to be rude to you. You were not writing anything about frozen and that you were just looking at canadian market. In that case I would not have laughed. And you wrote about some test breedings with fresh. Plus him not being marketed. Well and those two statements made me laugh.
There is not exactly just test breedings with fresh going on over here. Quite the opposite. The stallion was licensed last autumn, so already known to breeders over here. People tend to look at the licensings, the lists, videos from there. They ask for specific stallions and do not wait for some sort of printed paper from the stations.
As you can read from Dan, the mares have to be shipped to PS. I know quite a few breeders that did not geet semen - so I guess to be able to follow the demand that the mares have to go on station there. I also guess that they do deep horn insemination to save semen. That is what happened to other stallions and when there was too much demand.
Well and what it is worth. Sometimes one can jump on a train like that or one can sit back and wait. I am more the sit back and wait method and use other stallions that are not really in the focus of everyone.
i doubt he’ll be offered fresh anywhere this season since he has been so busy breeding that most breeders weren’t even allowed to pick up semen anymore and delivery was cancelled at times.
i am still working on breeding my belissimo x fidermark to him and was lucky i got up on the list early this year so i can pick up semen whenever needed.
i am sure they’ll be producing frozen next winter as it will be demanded and they are responsive to anything that’s growing their business

Yes he was very popular this year.
On Judy Yancey’s website she notes that she sold out of the batch of frozen that was imported and she ordered a second batch. I’m surprised someone hasn’t claimed a pregnancy yet with the frozen.

I have a friend that tried but no success. Bummer for her.

Dune, are there any more details you can share? 1 try, 2? Maiden mare?
We are still thinking about using him with our mare Farina.
Thanks,
Dan
I don’t think anyone’s posted links to these videos yet:

I have to agree with so many on here, he is very impressive. I’ll be looking forward to seeing foals next year
Here in Australia we have just received the PSI semen catalogue and Don Frederic is on it
We will have semen here in early September, frozen semen obviously and already i have heard there has been quite a bit of interest in him
I will not be waiting. he is being offered at $825 per dose here, but we can get as many pregnancies from that one dose as we like, so i will be split dosing and breeding with one straw only per mare
We pay alot more than you guys do for semen, so with the young stallions, if you dont buy in the first year and they become incredibly successful later on, the semen goes up to over $2000 for one dose
this is what happened with Sir Donnerhall also, who is now $2400 for one dose
I wont be able to give you any stats on the semen until October, hopefully you can give me some before then
Does anyone know how many straws there are in a dose of Don Frederic?

I just watched that video of him in the free jumping chute - have to say it was fairly appalling, he is no jumper, no scope or technique and certainly cannot lift his front legs up
He is also fairly massive in type, if he is only 2 to early 3 now, imagine how he will bulk up in future years
He is very W line to look at isnt he, nothing like Don Frederico at all
Be interested to know what others think, but this is the closest you get to conformation shot
I was not nearly as impressed after this video as i was after the PSI stallion show video
Obviously he is very young and green so cant judge him too harshly, but i think he is going to turn into a massive type

I agree that you are not going to breed to him to get jumping ability.
The mare probably needs refining influence of something like Sandro Hit or Lauries Crusador xx in the bloodline.

I couldn’t agree more with this. Looking at his current frame and build, and pedigree, I think he is going to be several hundred pounds bigger in a few years.

I have to agree. I prefer a horse with much more freedom through the shoulder for dressage breeding and I also think he is going to be a very large boy. As I stated in an earlier post, Donnerhall and Weltmeyer both can add “big”, not to be confused with tall and this youngster still has a lot of growing to do and he is already 17 hands. Tall can still be refined looking. But tall plus big are something different. I agree with others, and would be inclined to breed him to a mare with a lot of refinement. Even a horse who is not bred for jumping (and he certainly is not bred for jumping) should be able to lift their knees up. That’s what I mean when I say “freedom” through the shoulder.
The horse is plenty free through the shoulder in my mind, he just isn’t a jumper (why would anyone breed to him looking to produce a jumper?). I think the horse is an absolutely fantastic mover in every respect. He just “does it” for me.
From the sounds of it he would suit mares of super rideability and easy temperament who are more on the light side (though would be worried about breeding a mare with light bone to him). Not a stallion for every mare but that is always the case.

Ditto !
When i watched this stallion in the PSI stallion show video, yes he has terrific freedom of the shoulder under saddle in all paces
it surprised me that he could barely lift his front legs up in the jumping chute as a result
I am sure they must do free jumping practice with the stallions before they are expected to do this at their performance test, but don frederic almost looks like this is the first time for him in the jump chute
Either that or he is simply not paying attention here
I still like a stallion bred for dressage to be able to get over a jump in a reasonable fashion. And this guy does have Liberty M and Lord Liberty in his dam side pedigree as well
HIs movement under saddle in this second video did not look nearly as good as the PSI stallion show video. what is is about the stallion shows, they just really get them motoring along in a very impressive way dont they, then other times they can look pretty ordinary
I am thinking a very refined mare, with quite a bit of TB blood. I have a Belissimo M / Jazz filly who is very refined, with TB on the falling dam side after that
I also think he is going to produce alot of plain little chestnut foals running around. For those of you who are after bling, i would look elsewhere
I am going to give him a go anyway, follow my initial gut instinct
I did the same with Sir donnerhall who did a fantastic video as a 3 yo just under saddle. Then everyone went ’ he is awful with the long roachy back and flat croup and is out behind’ etc etc, and he turned out to be an unbelievable sire, in my opinion

I received an email from Judy Yancey yesterday. She’s heard back from mare owner’s who have bred to DF and it is 100% on six mares checked. Sounds like his semen is working.
