Sorry Shiloh! Sounds like you had your heart set on this guy. :confounded:

BUT, if you decide that you really do want a horse…here are a couple of ads from the Salinas CL. Maybe these horses could use a soft landing. Just to enable you…!

I too contacted a rescue person not that far away, that wanted to place several horses in bad need of homes, about an old horse in that group.
I thought she had said yes, I had a shipping company ready when she said horse was strong enough to travel.
Next I know, when I asked how horse was doing, she said she had shipped him half way across the country to a friend of hers she knew would give him a good home???

Worked out fine for me in the end.
I found another horse, super wonderful one, I then had for many years.
You may too, don’t let this disappoint you too much.
I think that some rescue people are a bit, well, windy, so don’t take it personally.

Oof I’m sorry, OP! Where in CA are you located? There will be lots of horses looking for soft landings at Mike’s Auction in Mira Loma in a few weekends. Auction Horses Rescue usually (always?) goes, if you can’t go in person: https://www.facebook.com/auctionhorses

Oh man!!! Boo hiss.

Just remember the right one will come along. Especially with the enablers on this thread. :joy:

Dang it, I’m sorry. I know what that’s like - a few years ago we had a local Arabian breeder die and their entire herd shipped to a local kill buyer. NICE horses - some of the best pedigrees you can imagine. I fell for a couple hard, helped pay their ‘bail’ so they could get to new homes. But the one I wanted, was actually arranging shipping for, didn’t make it.

You’ll find one. The right one will show up!

I am sorry. I just look at these situations as it just wasn’t meant to be. Hard to have the situation jerked out from under you but something else will tug at your heart strings.
