I love the smell of horse manure. I hate the smell of cow manure. The smell of donkey manure is really off putting to me and makes my barn smell bad. My horses go in and out at will and I always know if the mini donks have been in as soon as I go in the barn. Their pee is crazy strong, but I think it’s the manure that bothers me more
I’m surprised by how sad it makes me to have my barn “horse smell” ruined.
I own a donkey, and have dealt with MANY more and have never found their manure stronger smelling. Fairly typical equine feces. Perhaps a fecal and/or vet visit to see why is in order.
The came fairly wormy, and that was dealt with. A vet was involved
Just like humans, pee and poop color/smell can change significantly with diet. Maybe something they are eating/drinking is causing the stench - like something in their pasture or hay. It may be something totally innocuous. Excess protein, for instance, can cause strong smelling urine. Just a thought.
I have known a few donkeys, but never noticed their poop or pee smelling any different from a horses.
What are you feeding them?
How exactly does it smell bad? Sour? Rotting? Like dog crap? Death?
I agree - it has a different aroma than horse poop…maybe more “petting zoo” than horse? Not horrible, just more noticeable than the horses.
Yeah, that’s it. Now that’s it’s colder, it’s less noticable.
They don’t get anything really. A couple tablespoons of uckeke foundation pellets and optizyme. Low nsc grass hay and pasture.
I don’t notice any difference in my horse vs. mini donkey manure?
