Don't get scammed on ebay, this is especially for saddle sellers.

I sold a used Toulouse Genesis on Ebay. To a Buyer who also resells saddles, she listed it for sale on ebay as “Stunning” and offered it at $400 over payment the day after receiving it. I have absolutely no problems with other people making money.
Butttttt
The New Super Scam Is… And The absolute Kicker, they returned it 29 days after not being able to sell it, guess what, as defective from the day of arrival. I must even pay for return shipping.

I’m chapped, just don’t sell any saddles on ebay, you have no help as the seller. They don’t refund any fees/paypal fees and I must also pay for return shipping.

I’m more than happy to provide the buyers name on pm to anyone that asks.

Wow that sucks. It’s scary how many people out there can be that dishonest and still sleep at night. Did you sell it to her “As Is”?

Yup, also discounted the price and paid for shipping.

If you sold it “As Is” how is she able to return it?

Ebay now has a 30 day money back guarantee for “ALL” purchases.
Obviously this will now encourage major fraud. They have absolutely lost my business forever.

I don’t mind issuing a refund for faulty items. Just don’t scam and continue to try to sell an item for 30 days, if it doesn’t sell, return it.

I would definitely let EBAY know the policy is being exploited. Good to know about the change. I’m not sure I would use them for certain purchases with that policy.

OP, you did report this scam to Ebay, right? Insofar as they have all the evidence and can see how Sellers wouldn’t want to lend people merchandise, I’d think they’d figure out a way to correct the problem.

eBay has been changing their policies and getting worse and worse for sellers over the years. I know people who stopped selling there 10-15 years ago as they started making changes to the feedback system and other parts of the site. It is great to offer buyer protection, but eBay’s goes too far and tends to side with the buyer even if there’s evidence that they are wrong.

You need to take any documentation and get it to eBay. Talk with a representative, and if they don’t care, call back and talk to a different representative.

First this is “I have been told”.

But I recently bought a VitaMix on eBay, and there were issues with the shipper. Seller and I had some nice chats along the way, and she told me about stamps.com having a very good warrantee. That if the buyer messed up somehow, which would otherwise cause eBay to create a loss for a seller, then stamps.com would pick it up in their warrantee. Make the claim to them, when you use them for the shipping.

Like I said, I don’t have first-hand experience, but she was very happy with them.

I’ve been on the phone for 2 days with Ebay. Anyone can return an item with the 30 day guarantee. They know she’s tried selling it for a month, they don’t care.

Why would I ever sell anything on ebay again?

That’s insurance for the item you shipped, in case it is damaged or lost in transit. The USPS offers this as well. It does nothing for you if the person simply decides they don’t want the thing and sends it back. Unlike eBay itself, this insurance will likely require proof that the item is truly damaged and that the damage occurred in transit, not just the buyer saying so.

I totally understand your frustration. Before I can offer any suggestions, can you tell me if the buyer had it listed on eBay or just in other locations? If it was on eBay I might have some ideas for you.

Also, has the buyer sent it back yet? That’s also important for any advice I might have.

I only know of the Ebay listing, she hasn’t sent it back yet.

If an item is defective or damaged, I have no problem taking it back. I do however have issues with it being listed the entire time as “stunning”. This is an educated Saddle Seller having sold this saddle type/brand before. She would have known from day one if there was truly an issue and just returned it then.

First things first. Make sure you don’t let the return case time out before responding. You can end up out the money and the saddle. Second, what is she claiming is wrong with the saddle? If she’s claiming it is structural, tell her that you need to have her hold onto it for just a bit as you need to open a damage claim with the shipper as it was fine when you sent it to her. If she re-ships it, you’ll not be able to do that. You know there’s nothing wrong with it, but the more you indicate to her you’re not just rolling over on this the more likely she’ll back off.

Now as far eBay goes, I’d call again and ask to be connected to the trust & safety department. They are the ones that handle these kinds of blatant abuse. It will be a US based rep. I’m guessing you’ve been stuck with offshore call centers for 2 days. Thy are useless. They have a script, no power to think for themselves and reputation for telling people anything whether it is right or wrong just to get them off the phone.

Have your original listing ID and the one from your buyer. Hopefully she showed the serial number in the pictures or there is some way for there to be no question that it is the one she bought from you. You may not get out of having to take the return, but you’ll get her on the radar. She may have pulled this before and others may have already reported her.

Good luck. I’m happy to talk to you more about this if you’d like. Feel free to PM me if you want to take it offline.
