Don't suppose anyone has small animal vet recs for Howard County, MD?

I am frantically trying to get my ducks in a row before Potential New Kitty arrives, potentially as soon as Saturday. He is currently living on the street being fed by good Samaritans and I am ridiculously excited to find out if he wants to be our house cat. I wasn’t planning to look for a cat for at least another month, so haven’t done all the research I want to do about finding a good vet practice. We need to start off with shots and the usual street kitty things. I wondered if perhaps anyone here has a good kitty vet to recommend in the area!

Where in howard county are you located?

Dunloggin Veterinary Hospital is pretty good…Ellicott City just off Rt 29.

Looking for within 30 minutes of Ellicott City. I was contemplating using my mother’s fabulous longtime vet in Reisterstown but closer is always better in case of emergency.

LauraKY, Dunloggin was one of the clinics I was looking.

For shots I would try to find out if you have a Vetco (the come to Petco) or VIP Pet Care mobile clinic nearby.

They give the same shots using a licensed veterinarian except if your bill would be $300 at the private vet it will be about $100 there.

Just took my three dogs there for their annual 4DX testing, 5 way, bordatella, rabies, lepto, and a year’s supply of heartworm prevention and paid $486 instead of $1100+, so I was pleased.

Obviously for emergencies you want a practice but probably for that you want an overnight emergency care anyway, since no pet ever has an emergency during business hours ever, it seems.

The vet I used to use in Baltimore was also an emergency vet clinic…best of all worlds.

That’s something to check on though OP. My vet here will meet you in the clinic any night as long as you call before 10 pm. That’s pretty important to me.

I give all my business to him, flea and HW meds, because I think he deserves to make a little extra money on the mark-up for being willing to be available extended hours…plus he’s a great vet.

I will not use one of the pet store vets. Ever. It’s a good idea to have a relationship with a vet, just in case of an emergency.

Meup, my vet charges $99 for exam, vaccines, HW testing, stool check and nail trim. I LOVE my vet.

This is the vet I used to use when I lived in Baltimore.

And if you need grooming, boarding or an Old English Sheepdog,Tails End Kennels in Reisterstown is wonderful.

It’s the edge of your range but we’ve been pleased with Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital. We are even pleased with their weekend/relief vet (an army vet, I think he’s at Ft Meade Animal Services during the week.)

A million years ago, I used to take my cats to, and briefly worked for, David Tayman. He seems to be affiliated with maybe a couple of animal hospitals now? He was an extremely ethical, totally on the side of the animal, kind of a vet. I wouldn’t expect him to be cheap, but I would expect him to be demanding excellence in a practice with which he was affiliated.
