Double Bridle - "National Competition"

I’m trying to figure out if a double bridle is required at a certain level. I looked up the rules, but I’m confused by the term “National Competition”. What exactly is a national competition (see #3)?
I’m specifically interested in USEF rated shows and below (schooling type).

Is this under USEF rules?

I’m going to say that in this situation the distinction is being made between shows recognized by USEF/ USDF as opposed to shows recognized by the FEI (like CDI shows).

USEF/USDF can use FEI tests of PSG and above, but are not running a CDI.

It doesn’t mean “national championship” or anything like that. Just that it’s under the national sport body not the international one.

Yes ma’am - usef.org Dressage rules. So basically, if it’s not a CDI, I can use a snaffle?

I just found this further down. Super helpful!

Correct, double not required. Edited to add: At some shows, - like WEC Ocala this weekend, they run both a CDI and a “national” show. CDI run under FEI rules, “national” is run under USEF rules. I know several people who have shown PSG in a snaffle, and maybe 1 or 2 that have done GP in snaffle.

In all National show classes - even FEI tests - double bridles are optional. So you can ride the GP in a snaffle.

Thanks guys for the replies. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there but I just don’t think I’m coordinated enough to hold two sets of reins and use them correctly  :joy:

It definitely takes practice.
