Dove Performance Nutrition

Anyone know much about this feed?

With Hygain out, I’ve seen lots of talk of Dove but have never heard of it. Anyone used it?

I only recently learned about this feed.
I would love to try it, but there are no dealers near me. (Houston Texas).
Anyone around here want to become a dealer?
I’m thinking most horse folks don’t know this feed exists.

The barrel racers here in my area are all obsessing over it. I have no first-hand experience with it, but they are raving!

I am currently transitioning my gelding. I’m at day 6 so I don’t really have much of an opinion yet, but I’d be happy to come back and update.

I drug my feet switching over because it’s not as fortified as the balancer I was using, but my horse started leaving a good part of his breakfast so I figured I had nothing to lose.

I will say, it soaks beautifully. It becomes more of a cream of wheat consistency as opposed to oatmeal. It smells delicious. My horse has become very vocal when I walk in with his food bowl and he has so far licked the bowl clean every time (literally, licks it like a lollipop). His flank seems more relaxed and his stall is easier to pick too. It all could be a coincidence. I’ll report back.

Which one did you switch to? (fortify, magnify, OMG, etc?)

From what to what? (what where you feeding, what are you feeding now?)

Just curious.

I’m going to give you a longer answer than you probably want, I will put the parts you’re probably most interested in in bold.

I have a hard keeper, neurotic Thoroughbred. I have struggled to find a feeding program that suits him. He’s one of those horses that will blow through 14 pounds of grain per day and still look like he belongs on an ASPCA commercial and act like he’s a feral monkey.

I was feeding him (twice a day):

TC 30% balancer: 1 lbs
T/A pellets: 1 lb
Beet pulp pellets 2 lb
6 oz flax
Vit E & Cu/Zn

I have a round outside and he had a bottomless supply of 1st cut mixed grass hay (I had to switch to first cut because he wasn’t eating second. His choice, not mine. Diva.)

I’m working towards (twice a day):

Magnify HF: 2 lbs
OMG: 1/2 lb - 1 lb (i don’t know yet)
2 oz flax (mostly because i had just bought a new bag)
Vit E & Cu/Zn

Depending on how he adjusts, I may or may not add a little bit of beet pulp back into his diet. I’ve always liked the way it interacts with the hindgut.

I also picked up the most delicious looking 2nd cut alfalfa mix that my neighbor so kindly planted and it’s been a big hit. He gets that free choice in his stall, round outside.

He didn’t look bad on his previous diet, but he also didn’t look great. I’m sure he would have been fine to stay on the balancer, but Dove incorporates a lot of the things I was looking to add so I figured it was worth trying.

He’s not losing weight, that’s for sure. I’ll pull his blanket tonight and take pictures. I’ll post them for comparison. I’m curious myself.

I’ll add - he’s notoriously the worlds slowest eater. I’d feed around 5:30 am and hope he was finished by 7 when i have to leave for work. He’s cleaning up his bowl in about 10 minutes since incorporating the Dove products.

I am very impressed by the general quality of the product. It smells clean and natural. It’s very consistent.

The day I started:

Six days later:

Sorry for the low quality photos/lack of grooming. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical at first but I’m pretty excited to see how he looks in a month from now.

I fed Magnify to a hard keeper, high stress appendix for three months. I had previously had him on Ultium Gastric and then TC Senior Gold. He did great on the Senior Gold but unfortunately didn’t love to eat it. I switched to Magnify after talking with the feed buyer at a local store who raved about it but unfortunately I didn’t see any benefits from it. He dropped weight/condition compared to the TC and I didn’t notice any positive changes in his coat etc. I was feeding more volume of it than other feeds and he was still not maintaining his condition well, so it became cost prohibitive. He did seem to think it was tasty and he ate it well, though. I also didn’t love the 40lb bags as I was going through a lot of it.
