Dover Gift Card expired prior to..Happy customer Gift Card honored

I made a large purchase for the Presidents Day Sale at Dover and received a $50.00 gift card. Went to use it today as the Promotional gift card valid 1/16/19-6/23/19. Its showed 0.00 balance. I had not even scratched off the back to use it till today. I had double checked earlier and this month and they confirmed it should be valid today.

Its my fault for waiting the last day…but if you get these promotional cards realize that they expire the day prior to whats written or listed. At least mine did.

Ughh. I’ll call Dover tomorrow…but I’m sure there is very little they can do.

Call customer service. They had some issues with promo gift cards this spring. I’m sure that they will make it right. A friend of mine got a promo card at the grand opening of the Aiken store and had a problem with it. The customer service department made it work for her.

card valid 1/16/19-6/23/19.

appears to me it how the dating is interrupted … you assume through the 23rd, the code written assumed until

that dash between the dates should indicate the time the card was to be valid between those dates not inclusive of the begin and ending dates

my guess is the card expired at 00:00 June 23rd. oat midnight… not at 00:00 June 24th

Interesting.
I would read that date as 1/16/19 thru 6/23/19.

My understanding is that in Massachusetts gift cards as a matter of law can’t expire for 7 years. Not sure if that applies to promotional gift cards the same as ones you get as an actual gift.

I don’t think that applies to the OP’s situation, which sounds more like a coupon that will take $50 off her purchase. It doesn’t sound like it’s an actual gift card

I mean, it says gift card, with a scratch off back, which would seem to reinforce that it’s a gift card

I got a gift card through the same sale, and the gift card I received with my purchase wasn’t even to Dover…cue a huge cluster with customer service, but they eventually figured it out and I was able to order over the phone.

Dover was super pleasant on the email and are looking into the card issue. They said they would honor the gift card which is amazing. It’s an actual Dover gift card not a coupon.

I didn’t expect them to honor it by any means and was clear about that in the email. Just to be aware in the future that the expiration date was incorrect, as they had confirmed it would be fine to use on the 23rd in the local store when I asked.

Guess I’m a loyal customer now.

You have her card in front of you? If it has an expiry date, it’s a coupon.

Nope, its a gift card. I have one with 200.00 on it as a gift and its identical. The only “expiration” date is where they wrote the promotional dates in sharpie on the front.

Dover has been doing “promo gift card” events where if you spend a certain amount on certain brands you get a “gift card” with an expiration date for a certain amount. Since it expires, I guess it’s technically a coupon but the physical item is a cardboard “card” the size of a credit card or gift card. They don’t have scratch off backs, just bar codes. My friend who lives far from a store, but who is going to be near one next week and wants to be fitted for a helmet called and Dover said to just bring the card and it will be honored.

IME Dover is not perfect but in this regard they are usually pretty reasonable. Especially if it’s just a day or two away from the expiry.

As a lawyer, I’d read it the same way you do!

Dover honored one I had that was over 20 years old, back when they were printed on paper not actual cards. It did take 2 visits to actually use it only because no one knew how to enter it in the register!
