Dover is switching to a normal shipping calculation method

Thanks trubandloki; they actually should have the current catalogs (all of them) available at the register in every store – so pretty much anyone shopping should be able to leaf through if they want to see if the item they have is on sale.

The Plaistow store is usually pretty UTD on prices/sales. I usually go in there saying to myself “okay, only getting a brush AND supplements!!” and walk out with a fistful of saddle pads, socks, and the like

Add me to the list of those that haven’t bought from Dover in years. The prices aren’t that competitive and the shipping negates any “deals” I might find, plus it has always taken FOREVER to arrive when I did order from them.

I did, however, order from VTO on Sunday. My order arrived on my doorstep on WEDNESDAY, less than 72 hours later, and shipping was $4.99. It doesn’t get much better than that, especially considering I got two Soft Touch girths on closeout for $18 each. Big thumbs up from me.

Oh you all are discussing “Over” and “Dressage Expensives”. Yeahhhhhhhhhhh, NO!!!
Better deals abound elsewhere in the land where shipping is free or close to it…

I love their sales (especially clearance) but many times didn’t end up ordering because the shipping made it not that great of a deal. A year or so ago, I finally broke down and got a Dover Visa that I use only for ordering from Dover. $4.99 shipping which is not as great as SmartPak’s free shipping but usually makes the sales items still worthwhile.

I just went to a Dover grand opening last night in my area. It was a nice store. My question is, can you get them to ship for free to the store if the store doesn’t have something that’s in the catalog?

It was SO crowded last night I couldn’t see the entire store. But it was nice. I haven’t shopped Dover in years, either. I hate ridiculous shipping fees.

You can get free shipping on items to your house if you physically go into a store and order something. Now, if there are limited warehouse numbers and they do a store-to-store transfer, the item doesn’t get shipped directly to your house, but you also don’t pay for it up front, either. This way, the store you’re ordering out of gets credit for that sale vs. giving the sale to another location that may be across the country. However, if it’s something that you desperately need right away and/or know it will fit you, they will call that store for you, offer them the sale, and most of the time, that other store will also ship to your house for free.

So frustrated right now, been trying for 45 minutes to rack up things in my cart that I really need that aren’t “Premier Products” I have gotten nowhere :frowning:

Even the things on closeout are “Premier Products” EVERYTHING I want or need is a “Premier Product”:sigh:
Yes, I know all about manufacturers having set prices etcetera… it’s just so frustrating, the entire cart has to be full of Premierless Products in order to get the discount. They should make a new part of their site where you can search for Premierless Products

It does not make sense to me that a shipping offer would in any way be out of the guidelines of selling the premier items that are not allowed to be part of percentage off type sales. The Premier items are sold on other sites that do not offer shipping.

This also makes no sense to me. I understand why the $25 potentially cannot apply to items with manufacturer-set minimums but no manufacturer I’m aware of mandates what a retailer can/can’t set as the price to SHIP that item?

I wonder if this is some sort of glitch with the fact that they linked the free shipping to the code for $25 off (the deal was $25 off AND free shipping)? Instead of coming up with a separate free shipping code that did not ALSO include a discount?

That makes sense, it is probably a code glitch. Or maybe an intentional code glitch. I did not realize there was a $25 off thing to go with it.

I am not really sure how the $25 off would apply to those items either though. Because that is more like a gift card than a price mark down.

Not if they give you the $25 off THIS purchase as opposed to a future purchase.

Really want to like Dover - I think they have good customer service (they saved me 2 Christmases ago), but I found myself struggling earlier this week to get to the $150 shipping threshold.

Also somewhat frustrated that the order I placed on Tuesday (it’s now Friday) has not even been processed yet (or at least I have not received an email notification).

However, on the upside, when my order does come in, and the latest turnout doesn’t fit quite right, I know the return process will be simple at the store, whereas it is nearly impossible for me to return to Smartpak because I have to mail it, and the post office hours don’t work for me.

Not to hijack…but if you are a frequent and loyal Smartpak shopper (like myself), that the free shipping doesn’t apply to “add on” items? This is a term coined by Amazon.

I can’t really complain personally since my daughter works in a Dover store so I get everything from the store but I would be on the phone raising hell if I had an email in my possession stating free shipping until Christmas that they better give me free shipping until Christmas. That to me is even worse than their ridiculous shipping practices and is borderline fraud. We shared news of them seeing the light far and wide all over the net only to find out they aren’t honoring their word. Not cool Dover!

I think there was something lost between whoever decided this and the person that actually wrote the press release…

ALL of my experiences with VTO have been positive, including a saddle I just purchased on consignment. Fabulous customer service!

Not to further sidetrack…well, maybe so…I ordered from Riding Warehouse today, and though I didn’t reach the 50 bucks for free shipping, it already shipped out today, within about two hours. Love them. And refunds for a year!

I don’t understand what you’re asking?

With SP all orders over $75 or shipped to the barn with barn buddies have free shipping.

Yes, they can. While the store and staff are new it might not be the smoothest but it is their policy to ship warehouse to store for a customer without shipping fees.
