Drafts in Dressage!
Then what exactly are they classified as? A heavy cob? I always considered the Irish Draught to be a draft breed (Draught and draft are pronounced the same way).
They were the all purpose family farm horse. They could pull a cart or go fox hunting. They wouldn’t have been the horse of choice for heavy hauling or plowing. I agree with Mystic Oak…heavy sport horses

CatchMeIfUCan, I love everything about your horse, including his name! May I have him, please?

I wish I knew his breeder or his actual bloodlines because I would be trying to get another one of him in a hot second. Although, I doubt lightning would strike twice - he has all the best qualities of both breeds. I may look into crosses with American Creme Drafts in the future, though. Although it would be torture to have a field full of horses that are hard to keep clean!

Here is another photo: Toast eating a piece of toast. I think most of my photos are of him eating - he is such a fat kid.

Guess that’s a “no”, huh? Damn.

LOL!

You are more than welcome to “have” this one in exchange for $30k

Well, we event. But my drafty boy and I get AWESOME scores on free walk.
He’s a Percheron/TB cross, but can’t really tell the TB in him, haha.

Here he is recently on a training ride: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INk2CsHFhPk

I just got a draftx in October that I’m planning to piddle around on in Dressage-check out his Facebook page in my sig line for pics! He’s been shown with his previous owner, he’s quite handsome in the dressage ring

Here are a couple links to his first dressage show:

I have a Percheron cross that I am hoping to show for the first time this summer. Might start him out in the hunter hacks before tackling a dressage show, though. Pictured below with friends riding:

He’s so handsome!

Thank you! He wasn’t broke until he was seven, so he is a late bloomer. He is honest and forgiving, and I feel so lucky to have found him.

I have a lovely Hannoverian x American Creme Draft gelding. He sure is a showstopper, whether I like the attention or not. He has all the pieces to go to Grand Prix, but I am taking it slow. He is only 6. We evented at Novice last year (schooling training). He was quite good at it, but he is such a nice dressage horse, we decided to just stick with that and jump for fun. He is the most low maintenance horse on the planet. His feet are perfect and last time I called the farrier for a trim it had been about 9 weeks, and the farrier said he could have easily gone longer. Not a chip, crack, or bit of thrush in sight. His show name is The Brave Little Toaster, just to throw the DQs off and to keep him down to earth

He is definitely not bombproof and has an engine. He takes just the lightest brush of the leg. He would go all day long if you let him - loves to work. Makes him a joy to ride. He basically is a heartier and harder working warmblood - best of both worlds. And he’s only 15.1 which is the perfect size. 10m circles are so easy.

I have a haflinger named Toasty! I’ve actually never came across another horse that shared his name
We mainly do the jumpers but have dabbled a bit in dressage after coming back from a founder and I am most pleased with his progress!

i have a DTW/TB/Clyde cross gelding I have shown through PSG.

There is a girl pretty local to me that shows a full Belgian (all 18.3 hands of him). She has shown through second and I know she is working on third level.

He’s lovely!

So you requested a picture of our Perch/KWPN cross—and I can’t figure out how to post that because I don’t have one of those accounts for storing my pics. Anyway—here is a video instead. It’s from over a year ago—and I am riding (please do not judge—I rarely ride this guy and hopped on him only a few times before this show) but it gives you the perspective of his size. As you can see, he’s a lot more appropriate for a 6’4" guy. And you can see his flashy coloring (although his unusual shape in the top of his blaze is covered up by the ear bonnet). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVh3jICkgCs

I am kind of excited about these draft x warmblood crosses. I have always loved and wanted a draft or draft cross of my own (which I finally made happen two years ago). My dream use to be to get a nice Percheron mare to show for a while, and then breed her to a warmblood, but I was told by several people that you should never breed a draft to a warmblood, only to a lighter breed such as Arabians or Thoroughbreds.

For those of you with warmblood x draft crosses, do you breed to a heavier warmblood type, or a lighter one?

Thank you…he thinks so!

Mine is pretty light - DTW/TB on the sire side and Clyde/TB on the dam side - so 1/2 TB but not really (genetics does not work like normal math). He is 16.3 and about 1200lbs.

ETA - your biggest hurdle in breeding a full draft to a warmblood may be finding a stallion owner willing to breed to a non-approved mare in their registry.

Wow-gorgeous horses, all!

Yay Drafties! I love them. I grew up riding draft crosses so I have a soft spot for them. I currently ride a Percheron cross and a Belgian cross. They are schooling second and third level. My DH has a full draft that is schooling second level.
The only problem have with drafts and crosses is finding bridles and boots etc for them. DH’s full draft has a custom bridle because all the draft size bridles I found online were awful. And it’s hard to find non scotch bottom horseshoes in size 9.
The Belgian cross I ride is half Dutch. His warmblood side must have been refined because he got a normal head. But my oh my, his 3XL bell boots just barely fit. His feet are lovely, not platters, just BIG.
