I believe, that the Fjords, Haflingers, Gypsy Vanners, etc. are considered draft ponies, they are great for many things, are very versatile and all around, also good with children when supervised.
The Sugarbush Draft “cross” is just that, a cross, it is NOT a recognized draft breed as they take several different breeds, both lights and draft, and cross them, not sure what they are trying to do as the original ones that the founder had were Percheron/Appaloosa cross, tall, loud spotted and heavy boned often times. Until it is recognized, wish that they would be called a cross, as it is a misconception to the general public who does not know anything about it other than the romanticized version of this cross.
Draft horses do excel in many areas, but some, while they can execute the moves and have the balance and skill, you really need to take into consideration the bone mass, how well they move, what the concussion does to their joints, legs, their sheer mass of muscle, etc. A cross with a light horse or a warmblood then draft I have seen some amazing resulting foals who go on to have great careers in the dressage field or hunter/jumpers.
