If you’re asking after Betsy Stein (now Medinger) from Nimrod then Norfield, she is happily married working with the Pegusus program and keeping many old-timers from Norfield happy in their retirement. She is a really neat lady!
She also changed her screen name to “ABBY”, which is how it was when I reconnected with her, then went back to Cpt. Crunch, which really threw me!
This is the BEST thread! And I’m glad you are planning on coming the next time. Tentatively, the weekend after Pres. weekend in Feb. of '04.
If we can arrange the one at the Gold Cup next Sept., that would be wonderful. A lot of the folks from that area just can’t get to FL unless they are working. Sherry Robertson has invited us, so I’ll keep working with her to get this done!
Laurie
Jaysee, not only broken coated, but hair like the abominable snowman! Especially around the neck. Thus the name Yetta. The Currys of TN purchased the puppy from me for Willa when she was grooming for them. They thought the world of her. Yetta was out of my bitch, Arabella by my friends imported English dog, Kinlet. Gosh, I haven’t heard that name for years but it’s a hard one to forget. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.
And speaking of great memories, well if you missed the streaker, I sure hope you caught the Appointments class at that same show. Everyone was turned out to the nines, sandwich kits, folded gloves, checker boards wet brushed in, and the riders[the ones with a sense of humor] wore Halloween masks! Now that was a FUN horse show!
The Devon Horse Show has a photo of the WIHS streaker. I believe it is not easy accessible to the public, but I know it is there. WIHS memories-The armory!Galoubet jumping out of his skin!Junior hunter breaking leg - Rumors? Insilco! Having a horse “on the Team” was a big thing. There used to be arabians and morgans too. The Bud Hitch going upside down. The costume class was priceless. Too bad it got perverted.
Year after year people asked me why I didn’t do the grooms class at Ox Ridge, especially when I had French Leave. One year I had him Jimmy Lee judged, everyone was amazed I didn’t do it, they felt I had it in a walk. Jimmy’s favorite horse, owners, etc. My answer was ALWAYS the same, “I DON’T HAVE TIME!” At the time I was one of the few remaining grooms that did their own braiding, always had 3 or 4 showing that morning. There was just no way… To bad, I always wanted to do it.
Wow you guys have great memories
It would be interesting to find out the location for missing-in-action from the show hunter/jumper world.
Thank you to those who have brought back some memories.
I have stoped by this post now and then and I think it’s great! The grooms that have been talked about are all top notch. I also agree that without them there is no dream team at all. I have noticed though that one name is missing, Lee MicKeaver. I assume that his name is missing because he works for MW, but no matter what you may think about MW his groom Lee is one of the best that ever has done the job. His skills are second to none. I believe if you asked any one on the GP circut, even the people who don’t like MW they would tell you the his groom is the best there is and they would do anything to hire him. Unfortunatly for the other riders Lee seems to be very loyal to MW and does not seem to be going anywere. I think Lee is near the top of the all time list if not at the top. Wish I could have someone like him on my side!

Flashbacks…
Ronnie Silcox - Snowbound 1968. deceased.
Syd Eustace (at Windrush! with Lyps). Syd battled breat cancer.
SID Hoblit (SHE is the one who worked for Delaware Equine). She was one of Dello Joio’s grooms.
Moira Caffarey (I Love You). deceased. Wendy Waters Matthews! Blast from the past. What about Michael Snyder and Allegro, Johnny’s Pocket… And who could forget his brother David and Albany. Great grooms all. Peter Rohr still works for Martha Wachtel Jolicoeur. Dana Goedewaagen and April Rullah (are they still out longeing?). I’ll think of more.
I believe Marie Laure is back in France although I may be wrong. Pancho Lopez works for Elise Haas in California (Katie is her trainer). Willa was living in NJ making brownies (Yettanother Brownie) but I don’t know if she’s still baking! (remember her dog Yetta?)
Wow, all these names-!! I am having a hard time remembering faces to go with them!
How about the year they moved the Lake Placid show because of the Wally Byam camper convention??? It was cold and someone was making hot toddies in a muck basket using a water heater… I do not remember who that was… Might have been Shep…!!!
