Dress boots for a wide foot?

Will need my first pair of tall boots next year (I’m not even counting the disasterous $125 State Line Tack tall boots I had for IHSA as “real” tall boots!)… and dreading the search. I have a Dover near me, but it doesn’t look like they carry many styles in store.

I am looking for boots for shows only, besides riding every so often in them. I am short, with a regular to slim calf and small, wide feet. Are there brands that tend to run wider in the footbed? Can’t afford custom.

I saw that Ariat makes a wide paddock, but of course not a wide tall boot. I like my ancient Ariat paddock boots, and am tempted by their Volant/Vortex line from a comfort standpoint. I have a neuromuscular disorder and anything that will help my feet not hurt is good.

Any insight into which brands tend to run wider?

Ariats are definitely worth a try! My feet are wider in the front, narrower in the heel and I’ve had good luck with them (though currently only have paddock and field boots, not dress). They are super comfortable! I’m 5’2" and the short height fits me very well.

Ariats run wide. I’m a D-E width (womens) and have no problems with Ariat boots.

Edited to add that I have the Volant S, and it’s a super comfortable boot. I had foot surgeries for Morton’s neuromas and still have sensitive feet and they are very comfortable. Also, the leather stretches to accommodate your feet.

I have super wide sort of normal sized feet. The only boots I am able to buy online and trust the size are Mountain Horse and Ovation. Ovation in particular is right on with their measurements.

I have had several pair of the ariat volants and they work with my wide feet and other foot issues. I’d deginitely try them maybe Smartpak so you could send them back?

Mountain Horse also runs wide, or you could look for men’t boots if your foot is big enough - they are wider inthe foot.

I have not only wide feet, but also big feet and calves. Ariat paddock boots will work but for tall boots I can buy Petrie’s right off the shelf from Dressage Extensions. I’m very thankful for that.

Mine are truly wide, with tiny ankles/calves and I’m somewhat tall. Calf is totally off the shelf, foot is totally custom. I’ve tried all of the brands mentioned and they’re not wide enough. Hopefully, your mileage will vary.

IME standard Konigs run very wide.

I’ve had good luck with Ariat, but also Petrie. Those will have to be custom though, and they will cost you.
