Dressage Arena Letters

Where do I find a set of all 12 dressage arena letters? Have found a set at dressage extensions for $180, anyone know of anything cheaper? Or anything fancier looking that’s not heinously expensive? Anything creative?

They ought to be easy enough to make if you are creative. Some kind of plastic paper, a stencil and spray paint?

I am decidedly not creative and work a full time horse trainer’s schedule, so no way I’ve got time for that!! I found some on Etsy for $75 that seem like a good enough bet, and they’re big which helps in our ring–correct length but too wide, so the original letters we bought were way too small to realistically see while mounted!

Paint letters on some plant pots

They’re for an indoor ring and need to hang on the wall.

Spray paint the letters on the wall, neatly. White squares and then use stencils for the letters.

Or just buy vinyl letters in whatever size you want and then they are removable.

Found these at Big Dee’s for $22.50. Wish I bought these instead of the $15 stick on ones I’ve never hung (because they need to be on a painted surface.

Dover has cones with the letters for $39.95–could use to make arena the right width.

The farm owner originally bought these, but they don’t come with all 12 letters for the big ring. Sigh.

I bought white 5-gallon buckets and painted the letters on. I like them because you can then plant some plants in them to fancy it up if you want.

I bought the set of small cones with letters. The set of 12 is $45: Dressage Training Letter Cones | Schneiders Saddlery (sstack.com) Then I went to Lowe’s and had them cut up a hardwood board (don’t remember the dimensions, but it took two boards) into squares that I painted white (cheap enamel paint). I made baggies of sand from my extra sand area and stuffed them in the cones before I screwed them down on the wood boards (there are holes for screws on the base of these cones). So now I have a set of 12 weighted letters that won’t blow away in the wind and that cost me a total of maybe $85. You can also buy sets of replacement stick on letters for these things for like $10 a set. If you want to use contractor buckets with lids, you could buy these letters for them.

I printed some on my regular printer. I laminated them using the sticky lamination sheets and stapled them up in my arena. They’re now going on a year and are still in great shape (other than being dusty).

Using Word, you should be able to use any font and/or color combination if you wanted to make it a little more interesting.

I made the ones for the farm I board at using my Silhouette (vinyl cutter). If you wanted to go this route, you could easily find someone on Etsy with a Silhouette or Cricut who can cut the vinyl to your size specifications. The vinyl is called 651 and is rated for 7 year outdoor use.

you can usually get the set of 4 extra letters. Call whereever they were bought from.

The ones the farm owner originally got do not make RSVP. I tried everywhere. The set of 8 they got for the outdoor, I was able to find RSVP to match.

I ended up finding a set on Etsy that weren’t terribly expensive, are big enough, and have the centerline letters also. (And can just go on the wall.) I’m sure I can find someone to buy the lightly used set of 8.
