"Dressage" at the hunt

Copied and pasted from H&H hunting forum. Looked fun and thought we’d get some good suggestions from the coth forum!!

Start time - 11.00
Rider - A. Hunter
Horse - GoesAllDay (may be sub’d for JumpsLikeAStag or PullsLikeATrain)

Enter at A at Working Trot
At X, Halt, and bid the master good morning.
Proceed to Sidle around the arena.
At E, on 5m circle, pick up glass of port, and tighten girth whilst holding glass, reins and hunt crop, with horse dancing about in mock piaffe.
At K change the rein, without spilling port as horse shakes over x.
At C hand cap to secretary whilst the 2 horses try to start a fight.
At B halt, and gossip with acquaintances whilst trying to eat a sausage roll.
When horn is blown execute a transition from halt to Stonking-trot-on-polished-tarmac.

extra marks for:
Riders ability to tighten girth whilst holding port, crop and reins. (marks deducted for spillage)
The degree of barely controlled explosion whilst halted (marks deducted for tantrums!)
The ability to hand cap to sec without horses fighting (marks deducted for blows reigned!)
Staying upright at stonking trot on polished tarmac. (marks deducted for falling over, or dropping into canter!)

Uuuuummmmmm…

First we need to make sure A.Hunter has peed in her trailer before mounting from her 4 staired mounting block whilst her groom holds her mount…

Points deducted for any hairs sticking out from under her hairnet.
Points deducted if hairnet doesn’t match her hair color.
And at X - Halt and horse pins her ears (shows intent to harm if anybody gets in her way, she’s large and in charge.)
Points deducted if judge kicked while going by judges trailer…
Points deducted if coughs or chokes whilst drinking from flask.
Bonus points if test completed with scratch/blood on riders face.

Am I getting it?!! :winkgrin: Oh and what’s a stonking trot anyway?!!

A stonking trot is the the trot performed by the hunter immediately after the stirrup cup, and on the way to the first draw. It is barely controlled, very abrupt and most unkind to a full bladder!

Your hairnet must match? But that’s not fair, I’ve never been able to find a red hair net…and now I need one with gray woven into it?

More, more!

I think that we need to add more movements.
Corbette, (3 rearing leaping hops), at A upon first view of hounds
1 collected canter stride to corner, develop very extended canter across the diagonal of the arena
correct Attempted dive out of arena at C
(full piroutte)…
flying changes every stride as horse bucks, points given for elevation,
Double points given for rider genuinely smiling during test.
Triple points for keeping track of the hounds during test

Psst… Hot Tip!

Psst… Hinderella…
Spray paint does wonders on matching the hair and hairnet… Less smelly than the ground in dirt and manure method…:eek::winkgrin::lol:

How about a levade when the field reverses at B. All the while A.Rider says “Excuse me, pardon me, I’m soooo sorry !!”

Rein back at the speed of trot at the site of cattle at H repeating the same verbage as above.

LOL!!

Jawa! Perfect! just perfect!! :lol::lol::lol:
Bonus points if rein back successfully ridden out by A.Hunter! And major points for all other horses, ponies & children you take out when doing rein back in front of cattle! Group “rein backs” not tested until you reach intermediare level tests.

Bonus points for # of said ponies & children you take out during reverse fields and “backing” off path.

I’m all about the bonus points…:yes:

Points for keeping light contact while horse madly snatches reins and flips head like a bobble head doll. :eek:

Bonus points for not whip lashing other members with branches as your horse half passes sideways through woods!

Rider position is challenged by extended canter depart into clearing caused by prickily vine tail extentions!! :lol:

LMAO!! You guys just made a very sad week sooooooo much better! “Stonking trot” alone was worth it!! Believe I did every single one of those maneuvers the first year with my horse, without the aid of hounds, cattle, or prickly vines (or even children, come to think of it.) My first year back riding, too, after 29 away. I actually miss all that now. That means I should definitely go a-hunting, doesn’t it? :smiley:

P.S. We didn’t start taking out ponies and children until we worked up to doing hunter paces…that’s a story for another day…

I got a 10 on that movement because I looked stylish while doing it. You know, a Mona Lisa smile and a cheery wave of the hand, as I silently peed my pants.:smiley:

Didn’t know the little bugger had it in him.

Group “rein backs” not tested until you reach intermediare level tests. [QUOTE]

I would like to offer the following revision to the intermediare reinback movement: “Group rein backs presented but not scored until you reach intermediare level tests.”

That cattle farm just south of the fixture will present that test to even the newbies on their first day out!:eek:

Where shall we put these movements in the test?

Execute half pass (into swamp) at sight of 13 hh pony exiting grapevine hedge (sans rider) at full gallop.

Execute “halt-as-if-frozen-in-place” for 10 seconds or more at sight of gentleman farmer’s peacocks alighting in the trees next to the road. Points for halting whilst quaking horse rolls eyes back in head, and extra points for sticking the roll-back at full gallop when the birds take off again.

The rein back I was speaking of occured I was riding a friends green bean out hunting. We were in the back of second flight. We entered a cow pasture containing some newly weaned and VERY curious calves. We were surrounding 180 degrees behind by calves, when my mount decide he better keep an eye on them. We preformed a turn on the haunches and then proceeded to “part the sea” of second flight by reining back at the speed of trot. We could have done a freestyle competition on that one with the lyrics “Doing the bump!!” blasting in the back ground.

I’m the dressage judge!

Preliminary standings thusfar:
All Purpose=blue ribbon
Jawa=red
Whicker=yellow

And excellent scoring note by All Purpose!! And substitutions may be made for peacocks ie: insert spitting llamas, sheep, pigs, carriages.

:smiley:

Oooohhh! I might get a ribbon! :lol::lol:
