Hi, I am relocating to the southern Colorado Springs area from the East Coast. My husband is taking a job down in the Pueblo area so we are searching for a barn first and then a place to live between the barn and work. I am an FEI rider with a confirmed Third Level horse working on Prix St. George. I am looking for a nice facility with a large indoor and outdoor. Price doesn’t matter. I saw some nice places online in Castle Rock, but am hoping to find something a little farther south. I’m not too concerned about being at a barn without a trainer as I can always trailer to a trainer for lessons. Thanks for any advice!!
Try Sun Prairie Stables in Peyton. It’s east of Colorado Springs. Nice place!
Maybe MHJCO will stop in – she’s got the scoop on the Springs area!
Just wanted to say welcome to the state!
Desert Skye is in the Black Forest area of Colorado Springs. It’s an eventing barn, but there are dressage riders there ( my self included). We have an indoor, outdoor and great trail riding. Janet Foy and Grant Schniedman (sp) teach at the barn on a regular basis. Nancy Devaney is just to the north at Lost Lake and Simone has already been mentioned.
Welcome to CO!
I live in the area! Would recommend Sun Prairie and Desert Skye. I’ve also boarded at Vantage Point (really close to Desert Skye). Care was awesome, but the indoor is a 20x40. Whispering Winds isn’t far away, I can PM you about there if you’re interested. There’s M&M Equestrian in Fountain but I’ve only stopped there to watch a Pentathalon and couldn’t speak for the care.
A bit further North offers more options, but a very long commute to Pueblo.
For the Springs area where you can get good instruction I have to agree with folks here.
Desert Skye in Black Forest.
Simone Ahern – Sun Prairie Stables in Falcon
Whispering Winds - east of Monument (Grant Schneidman comes there as well). We have a couple of us who compete FEI there.
Grant’s place is between Franktown and Elizabeth ( westmantonstables.com )
A bunch of other facilities in the Franktown / Parker / Elizabeth area.
There are barns closer to Pueblo but no FEI trainers down that way.
Welcome to Colorado. Also visit RMDS.org for activities in our area.
Feel free to pm me if you have questions.
I work not far from the north entrance to the Air Force Academy. We have quite a few folks here that LIVE in Pueblo and work up here. So, your options could be wide open for north Colorado Springs on up through Parker.
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all your help! I found Simone Ahern at Sun Prairie Stables online and the facility does look nice and she has a pretty good show record. I didn’t realize that Janet Foy resided in CO. She’s the type of trainer that I’m looking for! Does anyone know if she has a barn, or just does judging and clinics? Thanks again for all the wonderful info!

Janet coaches at Desert Skye on Mondays when she is in town. She also coaches up near Franktown/Elizabeth on Tuesdays.
Grant Schneidman has a barn between Franktown and Elizabeth. Excellent competition record. Former USET member. He comes down to Whispering Winds every other week. And to Desert Skye once a month.
Would anyone from the Colorado Springs area be able to tell me if this post is still up to date? Are there any new dressage barns or new FEI trainers in the area?
The post is about 5 years old, but I was able to find Sun Prairie and Vantage Point’s websites. I can’t seem to find Whispering Winds or Desert Skye. Does anyone know if they have websites?
Does Janet Foy still give lessons on Mondays at Desert Skye?
What are the popular showing facilities in the area? Who usually hosts USDF regionals?
Hello! Colorado Springs is south of Parker, CO, which is where the Colorado Horse Park is. Regionals will be there again this year (Thank God) and there are several USDF shows there every year.
Hi DressurLeben, Amber Clark is an FEI trainer who moved to the area about 2 years ago from Georgia. She mostly works out of the Black Forest (Co Springs) area. She posted an upcoming open stall in the RMDS ads this week. Several shows that had been hosted elsewhere in the greater Denver area have been moved to the Colorado Horse Park in Parker this year. For those of us living south of Denver, WOOHOO! It’s a great facility, owned by the same group as Tryon International Equestrian Center in NC and the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The local horse community was thrilled to see the facility go to horse show people instead of suburban sprawl home builders. They’re committed to expanding dressage presence in the area. Yay!
Nicole Ackerman has Desert Skye. Check out her website for more information:
