Dressage breeches with gusseted crotch?

I put on my Pikeurs yesterday (in this case, Lugana) and thought to myself, “Hm, maybe it would be nice if these had a gusseted crotch.””‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹

I don’t think I’ve ever ridden in a pair that has a gusseted crotch and now I wonder if it’d really be better. In theory, yes, but I’m not sure if the seams would rub anywhere or do anything funky. I would think not. I have an old pair of Kerrits tights, can’t remember the crotch style on those, I’d have to look.

Breeches no. Tights yes. But you aren’t looking for tights.

Maybe try some silicone breeches?

That was my reaction too. I had never heard of Struck, so I looked at their web site after it was mentioned here.

Since I hate full seat britches or any sort of “sticky seat” sometimes I have ridden in yoga pants…but I can’t say I found the gusset makes any difference.

My favorite riding pants used to be the old On Course cotton riding tights with self-patch. I have found the Ovations sold at Dover to be ok, but they sit a little low on the waist for my taste.

What I love about the gussets is that they don’t bridge. I’m long everywhere, and my breeches pull down in my thighs, causing the crotch to slip down. It’s a total pain.

Can I revive this discussion? As an older rider, I find the gusseted crotch my only comfortable riding option. The FITS gussets have shrunk, I think (comparing to older pairs I have). And those 3" zippers are not very conducive to a sleek look for women who have had babies…. I am hoping since this discussion from 2020, maybe there are other manufacturers? I’d love more choices! (And I have written to FITS, suggesting a line for the more mature dressage rider! No response, sigh).

Just in doing a google search I found something called Starbound Equine breeches that tout the fact that they have crotch gussets. I have no idea how they fit, but they happen to be on sale for $39, so it might be worth a try!

Then you can report back!

Is that ad from 2022?

It sure looks like it is, and if you go directly to https://stylebystarboundequine.com/, you get the exact same products and prices. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable ordering anything from them.

Awesome!!! Thank you. My internet search turned up this old thread, lol.

So. I ordered from the star bound website. I’ll come back and update. I’d love to try some of the struck breeches. But $399. Eek. I’d like to see those in person. I am not the best at returning things….

So. I ordered a pair of M and a pair of L. Reviews said they run small - this is correct. The size L fits (I usually wear M). With that said, these seem really great! The waist is high waist (no muffin top), they are a great stretchy fabric (better suited to summer, maybe, but I just added thin thermal underwear). The silicon grip printed on seemed to work fine. I will definitely be trading the M breeches for L size. The gusseted crotch is the right size and placement and not obtrusive in the design. Perfect. I’m not sure how long the fabric will hold up (I have no reason to believe it won’t). But at this price, I just hope I can buy more!
