Dressage breeches with gusseted crotch?

Are there any dressage breeches, other than FITS, with a gusseted crotch? I used to wear FITS tights but don’t like tights anymore, and don’t care for FITS non-tights styles. Even high-end breeches I’ve worn, like Animo and Equiline, are seamed right down the middle of the crotch - sure it’s covered by another layer, but I can still feel it. I’ve learned to live with it most of the time, but I hate it and feel like I have no breeches that are truly comfortable all the time. Aren’t there any brands of nice zip-up dressage breeches with gusseted/seamless crotches?

Struck also has the gusseted crotch on their full seat breeches.

As best I can tell Struck has no full seat breeches, unless I’m missing something?

Are there really no others?

What is a gusseted crotch?

I really think that this is the only full seat brand that has a gusseted crotch. I know the original owner and designer, Sheryl. She’s a lovely person and I believe that was one of her innovations. So far as I know no one else has followed suit.

A gusset is an extra piece of fabric sewn into a seam, often to increase range of motion, like in the underarm area in shirts especially athletic shirts. A gusset in the crotch is a diamond or triangular shaped piece of fabric that eliminates the seams coming together at right angles in the crotch area. Most yoga/workout pants & shorts have them. Some jeans. The gusset increases range of motion, for the garment and the wearer, and prevents seams from jamming into you. Also prevents strain on seams.

I just got quite an education, thank you! I never knew such a thing existed!

Kerrits at one point had that. Not sure about now

I checked mine out of curiousity. None of them have it:

Smartpak Pipers (fullseat and knee patch)
Ovation Slim Secret Special
Kerrits Kneepatch Tights
Smartpak Hadley Tights
Smartpak Hadley Fullseat
Kerrits Crossover Fullseat
Kerrits Flex Tight II

Seems like a really great addition though. I hate the dreaded dropped crotch when getting into the saddle.

It’s so strange that riding gear is going in an athletic-wear direction in many ways, with high tech fabrics etc, jackets with stretch and cut to allow you to actually move, but breeches still have standard seamed crotches, despite the fact that you’d think that’s where we need the most range of motion and comfort!

Would it be rude to go around asking people at horse shows if they have a gusseted crotch?:eek::smiley:

This 100%. Especially in fullseat styles.

Kerrits used to have one. I bought all the ones I could find. Years ago. No mas.

FITS is the only one I’ve found. However, I’ve found others that work decently. Although I adore my Pikeurs, I’m loving Laura Romfh’s Isabella full grips with silicone.

the ones that most closely work like my FITS are tights with vents on the sides and are super stretchy. I think Horze but let me check when I get home.

Full seats with crotch gusset at 62% off –– but only sz 30 left.

Haha. 300 dollars for a feature I have in my 14 dollar yoga pants.

The crotch gusset is mentioned in the content of the patents for the FITS - I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Also, it’s not too useful if they only come in white. Obviously it’s nice to be comfortable while showing, but I spend a lot more time in the saddle schooling than showing.

I don’t believe that simply putting a crotch gusset in breeches would be covered by FITS’ patent. This is not something they developed; it’s a standard garment technique, and after all, to quote from above, you can find it on every $9 pair of yoga pants! Their patent, from my brief review of it, seems to cover the entire cut and fit of their breeches, and especially the segmentation of the fabric and bifurcated seat patches and perforated leather. If I were a breeches manufacturer, I wouldn’t be too worried about violating a patent simply by inserting a crotch gusset, if my breeches didn’t resemble FITS in other important ways.

Anyone else have recommendations for breeches you find particularly comfortable in this respect, even without a gusset?

Are there any Pikeurs in particular? I’ve never worn them.

Sadly, no. Lol. I adore my Pikeurs for the look, but not the crotch. I find that they do bridge like the other non gusseted.

By the way, I looked at my tights. I cannot find anywhere on there a marking as to the brand. Isn’t that crazy? The fabric is a little bit thicker than regular tights, and the silicone is two stirrups together. There are vents, black net vents, down both sides.

I answered you and it says my post is unapproved. I have no idea what this means and I’ve never seen it before. Crazy.
