Dressage Clinician Wish List

If you could ride with any clinician (or audit the clinic) in the realm of Dressage, Equine/Rider Biomechanics, Bridle/Saddle fit, Rider Performance, Equine Nutrition etc., who would it be and why?

The ones I have on my list currently are:

  • Felicitas von Neumann-Cosel (this would be a repeat for me, but she’s THAT good)
  • Britta Pedersen of Performance Refinery
  • Stephanie Brown-Beamer of Horse by Horse
  • Amanda Anderson of Saddlefitting.us
  • Charlotte Bredahl
  • Olivia Lagoy-Weltz
  • Dave Thind
  • Steffen or Shannon Peters
  • Adrienne Lyle

All of the above for riding. The rest of the topics I don’t have much interest in for a clinic format.

Neither is for the showboater, uncommitted or mentally fragile, but both will be kind and generous and really put themselves out for you, no matter your level of experience, if you genuinely want to learn.

Best lesson of my entire life: Anne Gribbons. Exacting standards for the rider, tons of empathy for the horse, and lots of learning in between.

Hands down, Carl Hester

Ingrid a close second. I’ve watched them both teach and love their teaching style.

My trainer used to have Alex Gerding out regularly, and I’ve never seen someone as masterfully guide horse and rider to harmonious improvement. I’d love to get to ride with him regularly again. I used to get in about 6 rides every time he was out, typically about every 3 months. My mare I’m riding now is so different from my others, he’d be able to help me learn more about her.

Pie in the sky: Carl Hester (because…duh)
More realistic and people who I’ve ridden with who I can’t wait to ride with again:

  • Claudio Oliviero (amazing pi-pa trainer)
  • Suzanne Galdun (biomechanics)
  • Michael Barisone (Lauren Sprieser is my regular trainer and I used to ride with Michael when he came down. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I routinely got a lot from those clinics)

I got to meet Lauren at Regionals. I love her blog on COTH. Ironically enough, one of the trainers I’ve ridden with specifically named Michael as someone they’d like to have do a clinic. Not sure what the climate/appetite for that would be currently given recent events, but it’s something to put on the vision board for sure!

Lauren does virtual lessons in case you didn’t know

I love Claudio. So good at what he does and so much fun!

Felicitas is on my list, too. Carl Hester and/or Charlotte Dujardin, of course. I would ride with Arthur Kottas again in a heartbeat. I’ve always found Robert Dover to be very understanding and can explain complicated subjects with little words, from watching his youth clinics.

Lots of trainers/riders at the upper levels that I love to watch and respect but know nothing about their teaching styles. Therefore I can’t really call them a dream clinician.

Hands down the best clinic I’ve ever audited both in terms of wisdom given to auditors and transformation of the horses and riders.

Just from videos I have seen
Carl Hester
Laura Graves
Scott Hassler
Debbie McDonald (dont know if I actually would support her…)
Mette Rosencrantz

I dont think I would survive a lesson with Ingrid (certainly not jumping!)

Im sure I will think of more later. It is a little difficult to try to figure if some of the ones that aren’t good for auditors/video might be great to ride with.

I did take a couple of lessons with Lendon more years ago than either of us would like to admit and got a lot out of it.
