How are these made? Is it really like a man’s silk hankie? Or is it cut in some special way? My daughter says it is just a hankie, but I think that would be too soft.
The folds, nicer fabric, and (traditionally) rolled edge give it the structure beyond a hankie someone would ball up in their pocket. But there is no difference from a traditional suit pocket square to a dressage pocket square. Generally hankies are larger but squares can be anywhere from 12"x12" to 17"x17" (I usually sew them 14" give or take.)
However, like with stock ties, there are prefolded and trimmed pocket squares that are far less bulky than if you were to fold a true square. Also better if the pocket is more of a faux pocket.
Thanks!
