Dressage Freestyle

Enquiring dressage dummies want to know: how many have scored a 90 before?
"HARTPURY, England, July 8–Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro debuted their new freestyle three weeks before the Olympics and scored more than 90 per cent at Hartpury CDI3* before a standing room only home crowd Saturday night.

Many spectators cried openly with emotion and gave the pair a standing ovation at the end of the sensational performance that received a mark of 90.65 per cent, the highest score ever awarded to a British due and less than two percentage points away from the world record of 92.30 per cent set by Edward Gal and Totilas in London in December, 2009."

Well I just completely lost it - crying almost as badly as the commentator, who can’t even speak!

I just wasted the entire morning watching this and I have to say it was awesome. I know absolutely NOTHING about Dressage, but even I thought the last two were the best. Even though I have to admit, being a Saddlebred person, I liked the gray horse alot too.

And I will also admit, I got a little teary eyed during the last two.

I am so sad that Valegro will be sold. I hope somebody buys the horse and sponsors Charlotte so she can continue to ride him. These great partnerships need to be kept together. Carl and Utopia as well.

If I only had several million pounds laying about…

No kidding, I had it streaming in my laboratory. No one else was able to get work done, either!

Maybe I need to rewatch her ride. I saw following hands and giving elbows.
for the dutch rider? no way no how. nope. harsh hands pulling , and an even harsher seat.

the camera crew got it right by doing close ups of that gaping mouth.

lets hope this kind of riding fades into the past as it should.

I had goosebumps and tears when Charlotte got the score!!! She was too funny asking everyone if her mascara was running:lol:

Great result!

I was disappointed after Parzival’s score. Afraid that once again a horse that looked held with strength and short in the neck would be held up to be the “ideal”.
Watched Velegro and saw such a huge difference with giving hands and obvious connection of horse and rider. I was afraid that it wouldnt be flashy enough for the judges. So incredibly happy when it was rewarded!

Breathtaking. I loved her music as well!

mbm, be fair here…Laura Bechwhatever had the same thing going on with her hands and she came in 3rd.

I was so pleased for Britain, and THRILLED with Charlotte’s music choices–especially that she used John Williams’s “Olympic Fanfare and Theme”, a piece I’ve always thought would be perfect for the freestyle.

And I was thinking all the way through, wouldn’t it be something if the gold medalist was wearing a helmet.

I’m not even British and I still want to say

I was PROUD of DRESSAGE watching you guys!!

way to go Charlotte, and coach Carl !

If all of us, all fans in the US and GB and everywhere donated just 5 or10 dollars, could we gather enough for Valegro to stay with Charlotte?
Have we learned that some combinations should not be separated?

What do you think, can we start a movement?

Before her score was announced, I heard her say “He (Valegro) was tired, but he gave me everything he had. He had nothing left.”

That’s when I was afraid MY mascara was going to run.

I thought Carl’s ride was more deserving of a Silver. He had a softer, more fluid ride. Maybe not as much power in his horse, but at least it was not btv the entire test and gapping with it’s mouth. That really bugs me.

Also, I don’t see how Anky scored higher than Steffen. Not that either deserved a medal, but it was not that great of a test. It also never had a final halt at all. Yes, there were flaws in Ravels test, but honestly, there were some more glaring ones closer to the top.

On the Dutch Rider??

I cannot tell you how awesome I think that young lady is, A true horseman!

How differently we all see things. It shouldn’t be that way, should it? Is it the same in judging hunters? I know it never used to be when I rode hunters 30 years ago. Then, everyone knew a good round. Now, we have people mesmerized with a certain pair while some others find it cringe worthy. That bothers me a lot.

I think that some of it is because many viewers do not understand how judges score dressage. Too many people have their things that bug them, and those aren’t the things that matter so much in the judging. And then, there is the factor that we all tend to see what’s good in the pairs we like and the faults in the pairs we don’t.

Uthopia has the flag on his bum.
I noticed that with two of the British horses. Did they all do that?

And is it true that the winner went to work for her trainer when she was 16? If so, that makes her win even sweeter!

I think that’s what I read as well in H&H. I wish I had seen the winning ride.
