Dressage in Corvallis\Philomath Oregon?

Those of you in the region, what are the options for boarding, lessons, and clinicians?
Scenario is a ‘re-rider’ coming back to horses with a lot of experience, but rusty.
TIA

I used to live there. Do you own a horse? Want to buy one? Lease? Take lessons?

The main dressage pro in those little towns has long been Kim Barker/KB Dressage. I think she’ll have an ad in Flying Changes. I know she’s on Facebook. Kim might have a horse you could ride, lease or buy.

I think Dale Forbes (who rode with Rudolf Zeilinger in Germany) now lives in Corvallis and might teach some. If so, you might go to Sabra Thomas’ barn and ask around. I’d spend my lesson money with Dale.

I don’t know who teaches out at Inavale, but I think there was an eventing trainer who gets clinicians in. Kim does as well. And you can haul down to Eugene for more if you get into the dressage scene there and can get a spot in a clinic.

I didn’t love the boarding options, but you can make something work. The best boarding I found was up in South Salem. But Inavale is a big, established place that will do safe boarding for you. There are a few other smaller boarding barns as well and even more options if you want to do self-care or be part of a co-op.

If you want to drive or can choose where to live, I think you can find higher quality horse spots in the Willamette Valley than Corvallis. But it’s a nice place.

If I can answer more specific questions for you, I’m happy to try.

Welcome to Oregon!

We currently live in Corvallis (have actually been there for the past 35+ years) and have had horses with Kim Barker/taken lessons from her for close to ten years. She was the Mary Ann Judkins Memorial Instructor Award in 2011, and actively clinics and competes as well as is a popular L-judge. Think she does have some lesson horses. Would strongly suggest contacting her (she has a Facebook page).

Thank you both. I’ll work on connecting with these names.

Karen Cheeke at Wild Plum Farm is also in Corvallis, and can be found on FB. I don’t know if she has lesson horses, if that’s something you’d need.

Custom Horse Training, Kati German is just a short jaunt up Hwy 99 on the south end of Monmouth, she does have a few lesson horses that would be perfect for a re-rider - as well as offering a full service boarding operation that includes daily large pasture turnout, and regularly scheduled visits with vets, chiro, acupuncture, saddle fitter, etc. She has a good group of AA ladies that ride with her.
