Dressage in Huntsville, Alabama?

Hi Coth devotees,
My son is interning at NASA this summer and isn’t allowed to bring any pets. Alas, his dressage horses have to stay in Virginia. Any thoughts of barns, trainers or dressage people he can visit or ride with?

Thanks for any thoughts…

Hi,

I live in Huntsville area. I currently ride with Debi Crowley in Elkmont, AL. She has Evented to the Advanced Level and has competed in dressage to PSG. She is a good teacher and a wonderful horse trainer. I enjoy riding with her. Her barn is Cotton Meadows Farm. She has a website with info (just search on her barn name).

Debbie Hill also is a good dressage instructor. She teaches out of Red Horse Ridge. I believe Debbie has a website with information.

Good luck to your son. If you have additional questions, you can email me!

Judith Fiorintino, Steel Prize Farm, Madison AL, has school horses I think, Is a dressage trainer, a nice lady. She used to have some nice schooling shows there, may still be doing that.

Try Debbie Hill - http://www.debbiehilldressage.com/. I don’t know if she has lesson horses, but she might be able to help him get connected to someone who does.

Wow, interning at NASA. How cool is that?!

Another vote for Debbie Hill. She comes to MS to do clinics 6x’s a year. She’s great.

Met Debie Crowley at a horse show, she seems nice, but don’t know her as far as riding. Her students seemed to do well.

another vote for Debbie Hill

you can’t go wrong with her. very dedicated, hard working and knows how to teach and ride. she’s also super to deal with: very professional.

good luck!

Oooh!

My good buddy did a co-op at NASA through university, and was offered a great job straight out of school.

Good for your son! What a great opportunity!

Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement! I am forwarding to my son. It will be great to have some horse people friends this summer.

Mason has been dreaming of working for NASA since he was tiny. He is studying astro-biology at UVA and his senior thesis is on the original research from the Mars rover. He will be working with the chief scientist on the probe going to the moons of Jupiter. (Hummm the opening music from “20001, A Space Oddyssey”.)

He has many years of grad school ahead of him, at least a Phd, to look for life on other planets. The dressage and his love of horses help him keep balanced. He is a classically trained flutist, so he wants to ride freestyle.

I hope he learns a lot this summer and is invited back for more long range work. I am going to miss riding with him, but that is the joy of being a mom, right?

Whoa. A classically trained male flautist who rides dressage, is majoring in astrobiology, and interning at NASA. If I was 18 and single, I would be chasing him all over Huntsville. Sigh. Can I introduce my niece to him?

Another vote for Debbie Hill. I don’t think she has lesson horses but she has lots of students and may be able to hook him up with a lease type situation. She is very personable and has a very friendly barn. Lots of nice people there. And, hey, you never know she might have an open stall for one of his ponies. A couple of years ago I went on a temporary work assignment to St. Louis and I brought one of my horses with me. I’d have gone crazy without him.

Your son may also want to check out http://www.bdcta.org/ someone may be able to point him in the right direction.
