Dressage newbie! What girth would be best?

Finally got myself a saddle! I’m so excited to start our dressage journey, and the last thing on my list is a girth… any recommendations on what is good?

Sent you a DM. Whatever you go with, I would size up a couple inches to make it most comfortable for your horse

I would just start with a basic $30 dressage girth unless your horse tells you he needs something else. Some horses prefer certain shapes or materials, just depends on their conformation and their preferences. My current horse has opinions so I had to splurge a bit for him but I’ve used the plain ones on other horses without any issues. The one in your picture does look too small though so I’d definitely size up when you replace it.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll go that route. Yes the fitter said he needs a 24, the one in the pic is a 22

Basic wintec girths are still my go to unless a horse is extremely soft skinned. The wintecs last forever and for most of my horses, they do not chafe. I have tried expensive leather girths and the sewing always chafes. For super sensitive skinned one, I’ve done synthetic fleece girth covers or girths (stitching on the Lettia ones always fail so avoid them).

Thanks!

My absolute favorite girth is the Kieffer Neoprene girth. It’s around 90.00 and you can just rinse it off after you ride. I bought one years ago when I had a girth sensitive horse and continued using them on all my horses.

Professional Choice makes a good one. I have an old Neoprene that is still my favorite. Bogey is right - just rinse and repeat.

It’s also a good thing is to have elastic on both ends.

I always thought neoprene get hotter than other fabrics. Wintecs wipe off easily as well. They are designed to stretch through the whole girth. But elastic ends are nice.
