dressage saddle covers?

I have a lovely new-to-me dressage saddle that came with a cover that is little more than a saddle-shaped piece of heavy cotton fabric I would like to replace. It works fine as a dust cover in the tack room, but will blow off the saddle sitting at the cross-ties waiting to tack up.

Where did you get your favorite saddle cover?

I think I’ve bought every type of dressage saddle cover and I ended up using a fleece one that has elastic that was meant for dressage saddles. I hated the bag one and I hated the nylon/plastic/water proof thin one that came with it. So far this is good enough but not perfect. I found an Albion on one eBay one day and bought it since my saddle is an Albion. I think next time I will invest in one from Etsy which I believe can be made for your saddle so it fits the flaps right without being too tight or too loose that it would blow off as I walked with it.

My “very expensive” Equipe came with a lovely saddle cover. It is a solid linen with a soft felt liner surrounded with an elastic. My Childeric also has a linen cover, not lined but the elastic has died so it just drapes over but does the job.

Mine resides happily in one of these fleece ones by Centaur. the fleece stretches enough to accommodate the flaps.

I got a cover with my custom but there are lots of them on etsy…riders making a few $$ sewing saddle covers

yes, try Etsy! Lots of options and colors. I like fleece ones, that breathe and don’t scratch

And why is it SO HARD to find a waterproof saddle cover? (Not bag, saddle cover)

I love the centaur waterproof one for my HJ saddle, but it’s too small for my dressage saddle.

I will definitely look on etsy. I wish I could find something like the centaur waterproof one that fits a dressage saddle.

www.fashionhorse.com/dressage has tons of covers.

For those who don’t like the plastic/vinyl covers, neither do the barn cats who sleep on the saddles in the tack room.

So far, no claw marks on my plastic covered saddles.

Yup. When I ordered my County it came with a cover: nothing more than a cotton twill thing like you mention.
I bought the waterproof Centaur, only to find it didn’t fit my saddle.
Then I got the bright idea to ask a seamstress to make one. She took my County cover and copied it using waterproof material lined with thick fleece fabric. It fits my saddle perfectly and she only charged $50!

Easy to make your own. Take your choice of fabric and a shaped saddle pad Cut fabric 4 inches around pad and stretch and sew elastic around edge.

Hansen Equestrian makes beautiful saddle covers… I haven’t tried the dressage one yet, but need to purchase one myself.

Has anyone ever seen a Barnsby cover? I’d love one to go with my new-to-me Barnsby saddle, but havent found a way to be in touch with the maker.

I have the dressage saddle cover here:

http://www.pphorse.com/tally-ho-products-all-purpose-elastic-saddle-cover-clone-en-2.html

It fits the saddle well, no elastic, but has a strap on each side that slips over the flap to keep it in place. Well made, sturdy outer fabric with fleece lining, and not too speedy for a custom item.

I have a Barnsby cover- it’s really not too fancy, just heavy dark blue cotton, Barnsby logo print fabric, elasticized. But it does fit my dressage saddle and came with it when I bought it.

I have this exact one for my dressage saddle. They sell them on Amazon too.

Thanks! I actually found them on Ebay.co.uk after discovering that Barnsby is closed. :frowning: I am going to have my friend line it with fleece when it arrives!

I used to make saddle covers. But the materials cost more than the covers in Dressage extension and other catalogs so out wasn’t worth the efforts to sell them.

Just make your own!! Do you have a sewing machine??
