Dressage Saddle for a Gypsy Cob

Trying to help a friend look. Essentially she’s trying to fit a barrel turned on it’s side. Dude has NO withers. Wide tree definitely. Brand suggestions?

He likely needs more than a wide tree. Possibly XW or more, even. Regardless a hoop tree would be a good option. I’d look at Duett and English/UK brands such as Black Country. Lots of wiiidddee cobs over there.

Arabian saddles are also an option, in my experience riding “barrels”

If she’s got the money, EQ Saddle Science, spin off of ReactorPanel, makes semi-custom adjustable saddles. My Morgan is, ahem, well-sprung, and ReactorPanel found me a saddle that fits her perfectly.

I have Gypsies too! I’ve found brands with the hoop trees work the best! My boy is currently going in an Albion SLK hoop tree XX Wide. And we use a no slip pad underneath.

I agree with this. It’s something I’ve learned recently. I borrowed a friend’s saddle to ride a Friesian and was surprised it fit. The friend has a (big for the breed) Arab gelding!

Amerigo has a model specifically for this.

I recommend WOW Saddles, given their adjustability, and Flair.

AH Saddles are cob specialists.

Another vote for Duett.

And groin stretches, lots of groin stretches.
