Dressage Saddle For Wide Draft X With A Short Back

Shopping used or new.

My saddle fitter from Schleese suggested an older Triumph but finding the exact specs is Holy Grail city. So I’m pondering other brands, even new if necessary. A new Schleese is $8,000+. Not possible at this time.

My horse is wide but his back is short. I need a larger seat. In the Triumph it would be an 18.5".

Any ideas?

For my short-backed but very wide Friesian cross, I have a Loxley. I was able to get an 18.5, long forward flap, xwide hoop, but with upswept panels to fit the shorter back for around $3k new. The channel is generous. I have the same saddle on my Percheron cross, but in wide.

I had a Duett saddle for a wide short backed horse. I liked it quite a bit

Looking at them now, I think that the model I had was the Encore but the Fidelio model seems more popular.

I’d suggest looking at the EQ Saddle Science saddles. They were the only ones that were wide enough for my XXXW Friesian and narrow enough for me. They have a bunch of customizing they can do for you.

Thank you all!

Can you send me a pm?

I second the suggestion of an EQ Saddle Science saddle. I have the Encore for my wide, short-backed mare (barrel on legs type). We both love it.

Before that, we had a Black Country Equinox, which is also great. Even though I’m not using it any longer, I can’t bring myself to sell it because it’s such a nice saddle and I’m convinced I’ll use it again at some point.

Thanks! I may have found a suitable L’apogee so we’ll see how that goes.
