Dressage saddle pad recommendations

Hi! I’m in need of a new dressage saddle pad. I’ve been riding in a standard cotton quilted pad and have no saddle fit issues, but there are so many great options for pads now!

I would like a regular square pad that’s breathable and not bulky. I also see a lot of pads out there advertising extra shock absorption which would be nice.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

Love the Ecogold pads. They are usually sold in the States in black and white; however, the Canadian website sells pads in other colors: Navy, Burgundy, Mist (a slate blue), Eucalyptus (old gold color), Charcoal, Brown, and Gold (bright gold color).

We have been selling a lot of the Equine Comfort Products Dressage GripTech pads. . We have also been selling a ton of the Wilkers custom pads… they are just cute quilted pads but they come in a huge number of color combos, and people love the quality.

Toklat Classic III pads have been the best for us! They come in the dressage standard size, Long (which makes them a tad longer but the seat area the same), and the Oversize (our favorite especially for saddles that are 17.5 or larger. They wash great and we have some that are 10+years old that still look fabulous. Dressage extensions.com carries all sizes plus you can get them at some tack stores, Dover Saddlery, and others. By far they have been the best saddle pads for the money and will last.

i have two pads that i always use because 1. they fit amazing and 2. my horses demand them:

  • Engel sheepskin pads (both half pads and the full pads with the sheepskin under the saddle area)
  • Eskadron cotton pads. i’m partial to the standard cotton pads not the more fancy ones but that’s me. i like how they breathe better.

Do you know of a good US supplier of Eskadron pads? I love some of the ones I have seen for sale in overseas tack stores, but the shipping prices get so expensive. I imagine if there’s a US tack shop that carries them they might be more reasonable because they can save on bulk shipping.

i’ve gotten all of the pads i have off ebay actually. i’ve been trying to find a reasonably priced online seller but it seems to be ordering from europe with a good shipping rate is the best way to go. if you find a place in the US please oh please let me know!

I am about to receive one of those spine-free Concept pads…no idea how it’ll be but interested in trying! Will let you know…but would also like anyone else’s experiences if they have them

I also have the Engel sheepskin pad & very much like them- my only issue is that it is the contour dressage pad and the flaps are pretty long/straight and not the best match for my saddle(s). Should’ve gone with the square option.

I love the Equu-Felt Quilted Olympic Dressage Pad from PRI I have quite a few other pads but this is by far the best quality pad for the money and with the dense Felt inside it is shock absorbing and they last forever. I love my mattes as well but excluding the addition of fleece this is a better plain pad.

I like the Thinline Dressage Comfort pad, as it’s not bulky and washes up very nicely. The one I have is the fitted shape, which does not overwhelm my small horse, but here is a link to the square one, from the vendor I used to purchase mine: http://www.saddlefitter.com/thinline_square_dressage_comfort_pad.htm

I really like the Waldhausen pads … great quality and a nice selection of colors.

I have the spine free concept pad and like it a lot…only problem is the current horse I have I need to shim the front of saddle and the pad has fleece on underside so it makes for too much padding

If you don’t need any correction, extra padding, etc. I’d recommend PRI and Toklat as inexpensive and generally well-made. They have raised wither options if you need that. There are lots of choices as to color etc. if you are a pad junkie

The PRI dressage pad with felt has a nice feel to it and they hold up great after several washings.

My two favorite pads are my Back On Track pad and my Anky pad. The Anky pad is the perfect amount of cushion without being too bulky.

are these the ones that are made in the same factory as the Eskadron pads, etc.?

Another vote for the Classic III! Love love love these.

For the winter, I like the Back on Track pads–we seem to both warm up and loosen up quicker. They have a special on their web site at the moment, buy one, get the second half price.

In the summer, I like something more breathable. The Toklats are a good practical choice, and I have a couple of Isabel Werth ones that I bought because I liked the colors which are also nice.
