Dressage Scene Dallas Texas

My DH and I will be relocating to DFW…most likely Colleyville area and am in need of boarding and trainer suggestions. I have a trailer so don’t necessarily need to board and lesson at the same facility.

My top priority is adequate turnout time…more than 4 hours if that is an option. I don’t need fancy…but clean, good quality feed and footing are a must.

No budget limits, open to small/private facility or large, but prefer not to have to drive more than 45 minutes (late morning-early afternoon traffic).

Feel free to PM with any info either positive or negative on facilities and trainers. Thank you!

She may be too far away, but Mary Mahler is fantastic … gets the basics right first, has clear communication and explains/shows things in different ways, very encouraging, has trained several horses to the FEI levels, and all in all a true horseman. When I lived in Texas and rode with her, she was training out of her own place in Haslet, but I believe she is out of Flower Mound now.

well, whatever you do, I’d give these folks a wide detour:

Wow :o That’s scary

Lol Scribbler, that is exactly what I thought when I saw this thread. Good luck DV!

This may be a good option: http://www.bpdressage.com/pebble-bourn-farm

It is a brand new (beautiful) facility in Argyle, north of Colleyville. I don’t ride dressage, but have a few horsey friends who ride at Pebble Bourn.

Audrey steinbach near Frisco? Very large facility, lots of clinics…www.whisperingfarms.com

Thanks for the recommendations and who to stay away from:). Are there any Facebook groups I should join for more boarding leads in the area?

I took lessons with Lyndon when he was located in Michigan. I highly recommend him for lessons and care of your horse. It appears it wouldn’t be too far out of your way if you live in the northern suburbs of Dallas.

I visited Lendon when I was looking to send a horse out of state for training. I didn’t end up doing so because the horse strained a sesamoidean ligament before hand, but when ever I saw them or was in the same warm up, he and their group was always very cordial. Even after a couple of years of not seeing them, they recognized me and ask nicely about the new horse I was riding. If I lived in that area, that is who I would choose to train with.

Sorry, my phone autocorrected Lyndon!

LTR with Lyndon and Julie! I recently moved to north Texas and keep my horse in Aubrey I am new to Dressage and have learned so much from Julie, very polite and always good training. My barn owner/manager and her daughter along with two other boarders take lessons and we can’t say enough good things about her. http://www.lyndonrifedressage.com/

Do any of the reputable trainers have horses available for lessons? My friend and I both want to ride again, but with heavy work schedules, horse ownership isn’t a smart option at the moment. I come from a background in jumpers with a “solid flatwork makes a much better jumper” mentality. ;-). My friend has ridden through 4th level. Any ideas???

There is a Facebook page called Texas Horse boarding and related services. It’s not very busy, but may help.

I’m at Saddlebrook, and love it. Pricing is much better than a lot around, for a beautiful facility. http://www.saddlebrookcenter.com. Paige (owner & trainer) is great. We also have a German Bereiter (Carsten Meyer) that comes in for lessons 2x week. LOVE him. Pebble Bourn is a beautiful facility (I know a couple of people there), but VERY pricey and completely full-care - so if that doesn’t scare you off, then it’s something to look at. I would also recommend Mary Mahler. I’ve heard wonderful things about her, and have friends that ride with her. But for me, Saddlebrook has been perfect. Great facility, that doesn’t break the bank, wonderful people, and excellent trainers. Welcome to Dallas! Where are you moving from?

I was also going to recommend Paige and Saddlebrook.
Carsten has made me. He’s amazing.
