Besides long winters with a lot of snow, what is the dressage scene like near Albany? I know HITS and Saugerties, but what upper level trainers and boarding barns are in the area?
Stockade and Maplewood are in that direction.
I’m going back a really long time to my Albany days, but when I moved there back in the 90’s I had trouble even finding a decent place to board with no discipline requirements. There were options up the northway, closer to Saratoga, H/J type places, show barns, etc. But who wants to drive up the northway several nights a week in the winter… I was only there 6 months, so it turned out that I didn’t have a problem. You might google around and see if there is a dressage GMO group that includes that area. Someone posted a while back about the Lake George area, not much there either.
I have a good friend who lives a bit south of Albany, but works there. She has her own farm, but without an indoor, has boarded out for the winter to keep her horse in work. Good places are few and far between. The base price for a modest facility is about $1k/month board only. A nice place w/upscale facilities and trainers are closer to double that. Her (not upper level) dressage trainer charges $100 for 45 min.
