Dressage Seat Equitation question

I have a question. This weekend I got a nice score in Dressage Seat Equitation and so I am getting interested it this. I might continue to do it with my youngster because it’s very relaxing for a young horse. But I was trying to look up potential awards or qualifying options and got confused. I found a lot for juniors but not much for adults. Obviously there are 3 levels of a pin which you can qualify for with 5 scores. Do you have to ride the same horse each time?? And is there also the option to qualify for Regionals?? I couldn’t find anything about that. Thank you so much!!!

Yes you can qualify for regionals and then depending on how you do there you can qualify for Dressage Seat Medal finals for the following year. A friend of mine qualified for juniors last year at regionals and then competed at medal finals this year. She did compete a different horse at medal finals as the horse that she qualified on had to be retired to pasture due to kissing spine

Thank you for your answer. That answers my question about the different horse. But your friend was a junior and I am not… I am an AA and everything I could find about qualifying was for juniors…

Go to this site, it should be able to answer all of your questions

They do have an Open division.

Thank you!! I read it, and it does say there is an open class. So with my score of 72 at a rated show I am qualified for Regionals??

It certainly looks like it to me. I knew they added this for all competitors, but wow - I did not realize that any competitor qualified for regionals at any level (non-freestyle) is eligible to enter this class. It could get to be a really huge class potentially.

wow, so anybody qualified for regionals could ride this class as well?? Thats interesting!!

The link posted refers to the current medal program for juniors. USDF also runs a DSE awards program for adult competitors in DSE to get rider pins, listed here: https://www.usdf.org/awards/performance/DSE%20Rider%20Award.pdf
Anyone qualified for regionals is allowed to ride in the DSE class at regionals, I believe.

Next year, USDF is apparently opening up an adult division for the medal class with qualifiers and such, but I don’t think they’ve officially rolled that out yet.

Here’s the info on the AA medal program, which as I said, appears to start in 2018: https://www.usdf.org/competitions/competitions-championships/equitation/aadse.asp Any AA who earns a 70% or above in a DSE class is qualified.

Not sure if the awards include open riders, as the class itself is training/first level movements and so at least the medals are for juniors and AAs.

Oh Thank you! So that means that there is no possibility yet, to qualify yet for regionals in those classes… Thats what I was wondering because everything else was talking about Juniors. So the only thing right now is to qualify for regionals. But could I use another horse then?? Or do I need to use the horse I qualified for regionals with?? And of course I could go for the pins… Thank you again!!

so my score doesn’t count??

If it was earned within the 2018 competition year, so after the cutoff for regionals for 2017 but before the 2018 cutoff, and if you had a participating membership and your horse has a lifetime registration, I think it should count as a qualifying score for 2018.

It can be used for your awards pin toward elementary and advanced levels also.
