Dressage trainer recs - Virginia

Looking for someone to help myself and new horse up the levels. Would love to find someone experienced in producing horses to the FEI level. Someone kind/sympathetic to horse, with high level of horsemanship.

Thanks in advance for recs!

Virginia is a big state. What area are you looking in?

Im willing to trailer/travel for the right training program. I’d much rather find quality than proximity.

(I’m in Amherst. Haven’t found anything promising in the area.)

Halley Bell of Greyhall Dressage is in Radiance. She is young and her farm is small, but she has brought several horses to FEI levels.

George Williams is in Charlottesville. He has decades of experience training horses to the FEI.

Adrienne Alvord is also in the Charlottesville area. She is a young professional, and the horse (Selfmade)she currently competes in GP CDI’s she brought up the levels herself.

Lauren Sprieser is in Marshall, VA. USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold. Great program and lots of experience producing up the levels.

Lynn Jendrowski is in Christiansburg, but going over the mountain from Amherst isn’t a fun drive. She’s very kind with her horses.

I worked with Bruno Greber (Crozet) when I lived in Virginia. Really classical and very kind. He has trained with Georg Wahl and Andreas Hausberger.

I cam here to say this, although Amherst is quite a long ways from Marshall. Lauren has helped me bring 2 horses up to FEI and worked with me as I developed several other horses. We’re now on FEI horse #3, just for me, and she’s developed countless others for herself and others. She does do virtual lessons, as does her assistant trainer, Ali Redston who is also wonderful.

In these days of virtual lessons, your possibilities are almost endless. You could haul to a trainer once a month or so, and do as many virtual lessons as you and the trainer can schedule. My trainer does a weekly virtual lesson with Scott Hassler. He comes to our area about once a month, so she does in-person lessons when here’s here. She’s been very happy with this arrangement.

What kind of setup is required for virtual lessons? What type of headset and camera system?

I don’t do virtual lessons, so I don’t have a definitive answer, but I believe Pivo is probably the most commonly used option. Some people use Facetime and even Zoom. I’m not 100% sure about this, but I think with Facetime and Zoom, you need someone to hold the camera (phone), while Pivo follows you by itself.

I would think there are people here on COTH who can better answer this question.

Yes, pivo. And the instructor can move pivo remotely if it loses you.
