Dressage trainer who backs and starts young horses in NC?

In search of someone to send my 2 1/2 year old to for gentle groundwork and a very light and careful start. I would prefer someone with a dressage background as that will be her career in the future. Safe facility with three board fence is a must. Would like to partake or watch two to three of the weekly sessions if possible.

Eliza Sydnor is wonderful. http://www.elizasydnordressage.com/

There are a number of good young horse dressage trainers in NC. Eliza Sydnor in Snow Camp is one person to check out. Tell us where you are and we can probably give better feedback.

Try Carrie Everhart, Shawnee Acres in Lucama. She had a mare of ours and she did a fantastic job. Our mare is an eventer but the basics are the basics. Nice facility and very reasonable for what you get…

Located in Chapel Hill NC. Would prefer the drive to be under an hour since I’d like to watch and learn frequently!

Within 1 hour of CH there is Eliza in Snow Camp, she has a nice place with very nice outdoor arena. There is also Susan Hopkins at Sullivan Farm (just a little over an hours drive, but nice covered arena, nice facility). Over an hour away there is Mary Haskins and Stacey Hastings. I also really like Jean DeVenny, lovely facility just over an hour from CH.

Give EqTrainer a PM. She’s a classical dressage trainer with years of experience starting young horses. If she can’t take one on right now, she can at least give you a really good recommendation.

Thank you for all of the recommendations!

Hi SportPony, I live in CH, too. I also recommend Eliza Sydnor Romm. She is really excellent with young horses. She can, and she knows people who can, put excellent groundwork on a 2 1/2 year old and gently start the horse. Good luck!
