Dressage Trainers Colorado

So sorry if this is the wrong place to put this. I’m looking for a dressage trainer with school horses in Colorado. Who do you recommend? The dream is to eventually compete at Grand Prix level. I’m willing to travel for the right trainer, but I’m located in Northglenn.

Start with RMDS.ORG to get a listing of some of the trainers.

Not many with school horses, unfortunately. You don’t say what level you are riding at now… that might help. Are you coming from another discipline? How far do you realistically want to drive? An hour on I25 (I.e to get down to the Parker area) might turn into 3 during rush hour or bad weather.

I’m coming from a hunter/jumper background. And yeah, I probably won’t want to drive for 3 hours in bad weather

There are barns and trainers tucked away all over the north metro, think Erie/Lafayette. Many trainers might find a school horse for a single student taking privates, sometimes working with other clients or even using their retired horses. You might reach out to Blue Roof Equestrian to see if they have a recommendation as they have multiple trainers and maybe one can steer you in the right direction? Or, have you done some googling and/or checked with the Boulder Valley chapter of RMDS?

Alternatively, there are also 3-day coaches with strong dressage backgrounds (look at Hobby Horse Farms in Firestone) who also can provide a lesson horse and will understand how you have been trained previously.

You don’t necessarily need a grand prix trainer to get started with correct basics so you can look for a good fit personality-wise and a horse. Good luck and please keep us posted!
