With the vast abundance of amazing riders and trainers in Southern California you may be wondering why I am looking for trainer recommendations… Well even with all these options I am still struggling to find a good match for me and I was hoping that my fellow horse lovers on this site would be able to help me
Jeremy Steinberg is in the San Diego area - whether he’s in the north I can’t say but you’d be hard pressed to find a trainer better than him.
Second Jeremy Steinburg. Check his site as I know he runs a pretty busy clinic schedule.
If you were a little more north east, I would recommend my trainer out in the IE. She’s beyond amazing, and completely humble about it.
I would love to train with Jeremy, I have heard nothing but good things about him however I believe he travels so much he’s gone more than he is home, thus making full training tricky

I believe Bettina is now based out of San Marcos
It’s definitely worth an “ask” if you’d like to train with him. He’s home often enough to accept clients’ horses that come in for a month or two at a time, or on a permanent basis. He’s also teaching once a month at Rancho Riding Club in RSF. The clinic list on his website is set well in advance, but not all the clinics happen as scheduled.
Jeremy is at Seabreeze now, as is Nick Onoda. Nick is a peach.
Donna Richardson? Nacho and Jo Moran? Kim Monk?
Thank you for all the suggestions, I will contact Jeremy to see how his schedule would affect full training as my horse definitely needs consistent rides every week by a trainer. I will look into the other suggestions as well
Seconding Nick Onoda. I adore riding with him (in clinics) and wish I could lesson with him regularly.
I can also highly recommend Verena Mahin. I worked with her for years before she moved away and she was wonderful. Tons of experience, both with made and young horses. Rode all Bert Ruttan’s young horses when she lived in Europe. http://www.vsdressage.com/
Thoughts on Elizabeth Ball? Not a huge showbarn and I’ve always liked her riding?
I would just love to work with Jeremy, he’s a national treasure. It’s insane to me that I haven’t worked with him given how close we are geographically. I would think that he must have a capable assistant when he’s showing?
We use Beth Balls assistant trainer Ashley Murphy! Love both of them. I heard that Beth’s barn is full, and what a barn it is! Off the charts nice! Like 100 times better than my house! Lol! And the footing!!! Ashley will come to us at our 5 acre facility and that is more along our lines! You cant go wrong with either of them, but I love that Ashley is mobile.
Will Faerber of Art2Ride? Does a lot of stretch work and really knows how to get a horse moving correctly so they can progress up the levels easier. Only rode with him once, but his associate trainer bought one of my horses and he is doing fantastic.
