I am less than optimistic that I am going to get to show this year but I am hoping something changes soon. As most of the summer shows in the area waive jackets I am looking into a dressy vest. I have seen only a couple recommendations in the updated attire thread but there have got to be more out there than two brands? Older searches show some people saying that they wear suiting vests? Any vest wearers want to share what they have worn? Schooling shows so it doesn’t have to be perfection but I just would like something a little more finished and supporting than a show shirt.
I assume this would be legal attire wherever you are competing.
LP Designs Australia does lovely custom made-to-measure vests that are designed to be worn without a jacket. They even have an online designer on their website.
There’s a vest look, an old-fashioned one, that i really like a lot. Where the vest closes to it’s v higher up. And the shoulders are cut a little but further in toward the neck… which kinda puffs out the sleeve at the shoulder. I really like that look.
Kerits Flexion vest
Last summer a woman was showing in a vest - she’d just taken her show coat to a tailor and had the sleeves removed. It looked great!
Might also be worth hunting around stores that sell business coats. Maybe Nordstrom’s Rack.
Harrys Horse and Arista make them. I have an Arista… really nice. The HH is too long for this short-torso’d person. ALso, Southeast Sporthorse makes them custom for a good reasonable price. She made my coat, nice work. http://sesporthorse.com/
I have seen some great looking vests on Amazon. For instance these, which are longer and come in lots of fabrics and patterns:
and these, which are shorter, also in a variety of patterns.
I love those first vests! But of course I really like the ones with the pattern best.
And because they’re not made for riding, they’re 1/2 the price of what you’d find in a tack shop.
Ooh, I like these. Cheap enough to get multiple colors too!
When jackets are waived and you wear a vest, do you wear a stock tie or stand up collar with the vest?
When jackets are waived, you cannot wear a stock tie or any neckwear.
Unless you are wearing a jacket, still. Does a vest count as a jacket or not under these circumstances?
Yes, of course I meant if you remove your jacket when jackets are waived.
I’m not sure what circumstances your talking about, but a vest is a vest, not a jacket.
A vest does not count as a jacket, it’s only applicable when coats are waived (or at schooling shows with relaxed attire rules)
