Brilliant!!!
^^^^What they all said!!
LOL! …thinking of England…that poor, sweet mare.
Epic!
Aw shucks! That’s terribly flattering. But I think it’s traditional to get permission from Manni before you repurpose a thread on this forum to ask for somebody’s hand.
What the vid of him leading her on crutches showed is that she is not spooky… as he likes to suggest when things go sideways, iow to cover his inability to ride.
And a bolt/spook out of nowhere? For a Dressage Maestro? How can that be?
In what world do you live in, that you think you should get information for free??? Entitled much??
Oh the poor horse you are going to torture with your ignorance. 16 weeks to 4th level? Wow the rest of us must be doing it wrong. We must love throwing money out the window and spending years on a horse hoping he will stay in one sound piece while we patiently develop his body to be able to perform well at 4th level.
ANYWAY, When you have a box car full of sealed bags of Puffins and HoneyComb and Count Chocula I’ll give you a couple of lessons in exchange.
Lastly, I would look at any other career that does not involve animals. You don’t seem to have the necessary empathy and ethical regard it takes to work with a rat let alone horses. In all seriousness, being a horse trainer involves 10+ hour days 7 days a week for very little pay and lots of worry. Choose another career with more stability. Learn a trade. In a few months you will have a skill you can take anywhere, get a job right out of school with pension and benefits.
Oh I will gladly give my permission for this marriage… equal minds found each other… You can make as many jokes about it as you like, that doesn’t make it any better. But as I said before go on and have fun…
Double permission! Can we go for threesies?
I think what bothered me most about the OP’s strange opening post was no mention of the horse and its training. It’s as if the OP views dressage as a set of card tricks. Learn these card tricks at home, then wow your friends! The dressage training scale is all about the horse, and includes no shortcuts of the kind the OP clearly thinks the world is selfishly hoarding away from her.
And the “information should be free” mantra is a millennial whinge often used to justify plagiarism and various other rip-offs. It translates to “I deserve to have the fruits of other people’s labors free, because…they already did the work, right? Why should I have to work?” It’s lazy, impractical, and morally repellant
But this thread is worth its weight in gold for COTH hilarity, so I guess the OP deserves some sort of grudging thanks, on this U.S. Thanksgiving Day! And COTH nuptials pending - it’s a happy time indeed.
If you think so… I think money is killing the sport… And to me it seemed in this thread that some people ( I really tried not to write everybody!!) were thinking about the money they spend themselves and could not bear the thought that somebody else could get it for less… Maybe I am wrong, but it was my impression and that kind of attitude will kill anything positive…
Today is Thanksgiving so we should be thankful and maybe even think about others which are not as blessed…
Back in the days of my youth I got ALL my horse information from books and magazines (my parents thought riding lessons or me riding alone as a waste of money.) MOST of the books I read back then were in my school library or the local public library. Yes, my parents paid the taxes to support these libraries, but personally I did not have to pay for anything except the over-due fines.
Then when I got my first horse I learned that he had not read the books.
Horses do not watch the videos either.
There is NO substitute for years in the saddle.
I think you are wrong…
My first issue is the fact that the OP was asking for free training for a career that they want to make money from, there is a huge disconnect there.
I really don’t care how much anyone spends, my budget is what it is, and I do what I can within my means…
The biggest issue though, how the heck do you learn the ‘feel’ needed for upper levels from watching videos…I spent a long time yesterday working on something simple…when we ‘got it’ my trainer says “see, do you feel the difference in having your hands where you wanted them, and where I want them, that inch is important.”
Riding is dynamic, interactive, I kind of get how you might learn point and go riding from a video, to get to upper levels you need on the ground help
Why thank you! Color me extremely flattered to have my mind considered “equal to” the clever and witty brain possessed by x-halt-salute (I am not worthy!), though of course if you mean “like-minded” in the sense of having a wicked sense of humor, well…fortunately, there are a goodly number of COTHers who would qualify as “compatible”
maybe I am wrong… but you are making decisions for another person. you believe that watching videos is not enough… We don’t in fact even know that person. Maybe that person doesn’t even exist, maybe its a horrible person, maybe its only a frustrated young person without a lot of money who is trying to make the best out of a situation. We don’t know anything about his current abilities or his potential… But you are judging him from your experiences… and I think thats what other people did as well…
A little example. I got a solo shot and I am recording most of my rides now. I love it because I already found some things which are relatively easy to fix which will improve my riding. So right now I am thinking about storing these videos and to check them for progress. I would also like to add some notes in order to remember what I thought at that point. Yes I am hoping to save some money with it. Lessons are freaking expensive. So now I am looking for a place to kind of store them. I don’t mind to do it public… I don’t need to do it here for several reason, but I looked at some FB groups… One group liked the idea but ofcourse before I even started another person already wrote that she doesn’t think that videos will substitute lessons… OK maybe but why telling me that without knowing me or my horses or anything about me. The worst thing which could happen would be that I start taking more lessons again in the future… So I am not going to do my soloshot diaries there, but I created a youtube channel for them…
So why stopping people making their own experiences???
No one here is stopping anyone from making their own experiences. But most people are suggesting that OP can’t expect to make their own experiences with anyone’s help –– for free.
And some object to the OP intending to gain those experiences –– for free –– and then turning that experience around into a profitable business.
No one is stopping anyone doing anything…
BUT
I do have a huge issue with somethings, I have no idea if this person is genuine, I believe not, if they are real have no idea of the age…but it is just another step from the eternal “I have this set for my homework, can you guys help me?” It seems the more information is available to people, the more they rely on others to spoon feed it to them.
Yes I’m old, yes I’m grouchy, especially today, but I still happen to believe that learning anything takes some effort, learning to be a dressage rider, or any damn rider starts in a stall with a muck fork in your hand, something that the OP had rejected…
You know what? There is free training to be had out there. I’ll guarantee that all of you legitimate, accomplished trainers on this thread HAVE generously given free training… to students who work hard, prove their commitment, demonstrate their humility, and don’t LOOK for free training. They expect to pay, they use their time and money wisely, and they put themselves in the position to maximize every bit of training and knowledge that comes their way.
I’d bet my last dollar many of you have subsidized these types of riders. The OP just doesn’t seem to have the characteristics of those grateful students that would make anyone even consider going out of the way for him/her.
you make assumptions… how do you know whether he/she will ever be able to start a profitable business…??? And I guess now his/her chances are even lower because now some COTH members will have their eyes on him and if they ever spot him/her they will tell the whole world how bad he/she is/was …
It’s a Thanksgiving miracle! The YouTube thread has come back to life, complete with new aspersions cast by our volunteer police department, more earnest and good commentary by kind but not foolish CoTHers, AND wedding bells!
@Dr. Doolittle, I suppose we have to set a date! But I hope you’re o.k. with an open marriage … normally I’m a traditional girl, but there are too many beautiful minds here for me to be ready to commit to just one for the rest of my wise-cracking life!
