Dressage!!!

Lost, my ref’s to scores came from listening to the (excruciating) commentary by Melanie Smith on MSNBC. She referenced the live scoring several times, though we weren’t given that camera angle-the feed gods were apparently too busy with the 12 other cameras…

Yes, the BBC government funded with about 3.5 billion pounds per year, out of the British government’s 682 billion pounds in expenditures. To contrast, the requested appropriation for the US’s Coporation for Public Broadcasting (PBS) is $445 million, out of a government budget total of $3.8 trillion. So yes, that’s why there are fewer commercials and a free feed to British taxpayers.

Hmmmmm, my expat seems to make my computer freeze. Luckily i have friends with cable subscriptions.

Ummmmm. I want Uthopia. Carl, can I have your horse? He looks so rideable and pleasant.

Thanks!

Yup. What an elegant fellow. Looks like a real trier.
Does Santana have a glass eye? Notice it in a close-up of him. Can’t find any info. Thanks.

Good question. Someone here said he was blind in one eye, and come to think of it…that closeup shot was a was oddly Jaws-like - …and, you know, the thing about a shark… he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes.

Lovely horse.

It looks like they put a fake eye in Santana, which is why I don’t like them. They look creepy. I had a horse we took an eye out of, and I think they hole left looks a lot nicer.

I still have to find the replay and watch the last three, but having watched all of the others, I have to say everyone did a really good job riding and the best they could with their horses. You used to watch Olympics and see 3 or 4 do a piaffe on the spot. Now almost everyone does. You used to see lame horses win (ahem, Rusty) now they all look sound and good. I am impressed with the quality of riding. The only one I saw doing any pulling every step was Ebling, but that was still a nice ride. Now, if they could only do pirouettes almost on the spot instead of 6 meters!

Dressage is getting better, and there should be some amazing rides tomorrow.

Wow, just watching the replays. Riders deservea a bronze umbrella just for riding in the driving rain…

Someone just posted a portion of David Marcus’ ride:

And that was towards the end, too. It looked even worse in live HD

For those of you who have issues like me finding the replays, here’s a link.

Here is day 1 dressage replay:

He gets a 10 from me for sticking it in and outside the ring… I saw the whole test and wow, poor horse, quite the meltdown… and the rider just said “horses… sigh…”

Totally agree. Horse is young, great attitude from David. Hopefully they’ll get another shot in 2016.

Except I get an error message when I follow the link, followed by a wait for the proper page to load, which almost happens … until it gets to the part where IE has a logic error, freezes & then shuts down all windows … :sigh:

Unfortunately that has pretty much been my experience with the live feed & even the replays (on various websites) today

 • Day 1 Equestrian on RDS was superb for live feed & the replays, the XC was fantastic on OLN (techinical errors online), now it seems HitnMiss: OLN was messed up today with the live feeds & replays in my area: there are obviously technical glitches somewhere in the system - friends are having same issues with both the online & cable/satellite :frowning:

I agree - he looks odd. He has a long back (and a very forward saddle position) and he looks like he’s a bit croup high. But what really strikes me is that he’s unlike so many other dressage horses in that he is very short from “elbow” to “knee”, and stifle to hock, but very long below these joints. He’s also got a narrow chest. It all makes him look like he’s flinging his legs a bit and gives him that rocking horse looking canter. Interesting build.

Oh man, sorry. It’s there, though. You just have to keep typing in things, and then it ends up being something you can click on on the right side. I JUST finished watching the last three rides from there. Your persistence will pay off.

Yep, he certainly gets a 10 for riding, for being graceful about it all, and keeping the lid on his horse. I really like his horse, though.

I bet Hayley Beresford is secretly feeling a bit smug. Personally I can’t understand why Australia bothered sending a team at all if we can’t get a rider over 70% …
You are really making this http://www.throng.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/crying-happy.jpg look true

We (NZ) are THRILLED to have one rider at the dressage! (she scored 65.258%.) How are we ever going to get more if we won’t allow just one to go? … How are your riders going to develop and improve if you don’t send them and support them even when they are not world-beaters? Typical Aussie :stuck_out_tongue:

Does this link to the first day work any better:

David Marcus’ horse has awesome crossover during the running sideways part of their test.

Sorry about Anky’s husband.

BUT she totally failed to salute in 2008 at the freestyle, too. She did not, however, forget to wave at the crowd then, either. Interesting that the “wave at crowd” button remains programmed in there even during excitement/stress/big moments/tension over horse/relief over horse doing well/illness of spouse/etc., but the “show respect to the judges” button has an apparent occasional short in it.
She and Sjef aren’t married. They got married in Las Vegas during WC but that marriage isn’t recognized in Holland.

In 2008 (Hong Kong) she explained that she didn’t make Salinero halt at the end because she knew from how well her test had gone that she’d won the gold and so decided not to make him do it. She just laughed it off.

Her failure-to-salute-but-wave-at-crowd routine has gotten a bit old…

alto, are you in Canada? If you can see OLN and RDS, you must be and that’s why you won’t be able to watch anything on NBC. Geographical regulations… same as nobody in the US can see the OLN/CTV replays.

Here is the link to the replay on CTV for Canadians
