Stupid question: Are Grand Prix dressage riders allowed to wear helmets in the ring?

Yup.

Although from afar, this one’s hat looks like she’s got a bright white heart on her head.

Yes. Jacquie Brooks of Canada wore hers!

Absolutely! At regular competitions, you actually see a lot of FEI riders in helmets these days (a HUGE change). I guess for the olympics, most are going with the top hat look - but almost everyone was schooling in helmets (see pictures on dressage-news.com). It’s not perfect but it is such a huge step in the right direction in a very short amount of time (almost no one in 2008 schooled in a helmet, at WEG it was closer to 50%). I bet you’ll see a few more helmets in the ring as this competition goes on, especially from some of the younger riders and the North American contingent.

I was SO thrilled to see riders in helmets! A good change indeed.

Well… there’s someone in the ring with one now. Does that answer your question?

This is not our games. So frustrating for our riders!

Thanks Applecore! This Finnish rider in the ring, Emma Kanerva, is also wearing one as well

What happened to David Marcus?

Did the Canadian rider wear her helmet? She always wears one here, even for big shows. I assumed she would but no oe has mentioned it so now I’m afraid she didn’t and caved to fear of old fashioned European judges.
What about other riders?

I’m frustrated too but hopefully Ashley will have a good ride on Breaking Dawn  I just love that horse, saw him at the Royal Winter Fair last year.

OH heck no. What’s the national hard liquor of Canada? Time to break out a bottle.

He was eliminated as Capital was spooking (rearing etc.) in the ring.

Horse very decidedly did not want to play ball and told everyone pretty explicitly where to go.

I think for karma’s sake Breaking Dawn needs to put in the tests of his life and score above an 80 all week. And then your show jumpers need to kick serious butt.

The real question is, what isn’t?

Stupid question… with only 3 riders on a team, is there even a drop score?

Screech, if you’re on the East coast. Beer, if you’re anywhere else.

NJR

No drop score. If a team member is eliminated, the team is out of medal contention.

I missed Anky’s ride but noticed on the website that she scored 73.343%. Looks like she has the fourth best score of the day (so far). Does she have a shot with Salinero at a medal?

Nope. Unfortunately the Canadians are out. Hope Ashley can score well and offer some consolation. That was a pretty good test for The first Canadian too.

MSNBC is live now, not even delayed!
Nice to see it on the big TV instead of the little computer screen.
