Driven Dressage scoring

Does anyone know the history behind the dressage multiplier being 0.727? And then subtract from 160?

I just crack up when I look at that because it seems entirely random. Eventing used to use a multiplier back in the day, but no longer- it’s just the penalty points derived from the inverse percentage score. Easy to score, very easy to calculate in your head based on the scores of each movement. But 0.727? Prince Phillip’s favorite number? And subtract from 160? What does that do?

We did the Continuous Driving Event yesterday at the GMHA Fall Driving Classic and it was a lot of fun - and they gave out ribbons for each phase as well overall.

It is indeed the same as the old ridden eventing multiplier. The dressage test is supposed to count for up to 160 points (including presentation) of the total score in CDE.

To make the various tests equal that amount they are multiplied by a factor to reduce the overall value to only that amount.

Tests with 15 movements and presentation do not have a multiplier.

Ok thank you! The first test I got back with a score of 57 I was appalled, thinking I thought it was better than a lot of 4s with some 5s… And then I read the scoring and felt a lot better. (yesterday we got a 47 - equivalent to a 68%! )

But I still have to remind myself it’s on a different scale than what I am used to.

I think in some shows where the Belgian computer program is used they do post percentages at CDEs, but for the most part we don’t figure or post them otherwise. Makes it a bit harder for dressage folk, but since we don’t use that number posting it can make it more confusing for some.
